Kodungaiyur (Tamil: கொடுங்கையூர்) is mainly a residential locality in northern part of the metropolitan city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu state, India.

[edit] Location and Surroundings
Kodungaiyur is located in northern most part of Chennai city. It borders Selavaayil, Chinna sekkaadu to the north, Kaviyarasu Kannadasan (KKD) Nagar to the east, Arul Nagar (Madhavaram) to the west and Moolakkadai to the south. National Highway 5(NH 5) touches this area in south at Moolakkadai. The main throughfares in the area are Kamaraj Road, Thiruvalluvar street, NSK salai and Manali road. The southern part (older part) of the locality around Kamaraj salai is called "Periya Kodungaiyur", whereas the northern part (relatively recently developed part) around NSK salai and Manali road is called "Chinna Kodungaiyur" and Thiruvalluvar street making the unofficial divider between these two areas.

Kodungaiyur has a number of educational institutions catering to the residents of the area. Most notable ones are Thiruthangal Nadar Arts and Science College and Muthu Kumaraswamy college serving as Arts colleges. Most famous schools are Gurumoorthy High school, FES Matriculation Higher secondary school, St. Mary's Matriculation School, Velankani Matriculation School, Our lady's Matriculation school and Vivekanada Vidyalaya matriculation school.

Metroploitan Transport Corporation (MTC) runs passenger buses to Kondungaiyur from other major parts of the Chennai city. The bus terminus is located at Parvathy Nagar in northern section of the locality. The bus routes are 46C from CMBT (Koyambedu), 38D from Thiruvottiyur, M116L from High Court and 7G,33,M33,116,M116 from Parrys. The other smaller terminus is located at Muthamizh Nagar with 46G from CMBT (Koyambedu) and 138 from Ennore. But most commuters from this area goto other neighbourhoods with more bus routes to other parts of the city. In Chinna Kodungaiyur (Norhtern part), residents east of Manali road goto Kaviyarasu Kanadasan (KKD) Nagar bus terminus and residents west of Manali road goto Arul Nagar (Madhavaram) bus stop. Residents of Periya Kodungaiyur goto Moolakadai bus stop to catch buses to their destinations.

Most notable neighbourhoods in Kodungaiyur are R.V.Nagar, Venkateswara Nagar (Part I & II),Seetharam Nagar, Eveready Colony, Ambika Nagar etc. R.V. Nagar is the most famous of all.

Most famous temples in the area are Vinayagar temple in R.V Nagar, Venkatesa permual temple in Balaji Nagar, Sri Siddhi Vainayakar temple in Venkateswara Nagar, Kalasathamman Koil in Parvathy Nagar, Shankara Vinayagar temple in Periya Kodungaiyur, Nagathamman Koil in Eveready colony.

The most famous hospital located in Errukanchery is Pavithra Hospital. It is famous not because of its medical facilities and treatment but because it had came in many popular films.
