Kexholm County
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kexholm County, Kexholms län or Käkisalmen lääni, was a county of Sweden from 1634 to 1721 when most of it was ceded to Russia by the Treaty of Nystad. The county extended to the parishes of Lieksa in North and to Hyrsylä in the East. In the South, the county was bordered by Viborg and Nyslott County. In 1812 it was as a part of "Old Finland" incorporated with the Grand Duchy of Finland. However, the northernmost regions of the county remained in Swedish possession until the Finnish war of 1808–1809. The capital of the county was modern Priozersk (Finnish: Käkisalmi).
