Kenny Live
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kenny Live was a very popular television chat show which was broadcast in Ireland on RTÉ One between 1988 and 1999. The show grew out of two other failed chat shows, Saturday Live and The Pat Kenny Show. Kenny Live was hosted by Pat Kenny and was broadcast live on Saturday nights after the main evening news at 21:20, lasting approximately 90 minutes. Kenny Live was a mix of serious discussion and light chat aimed at a younger audience than its main rival, The Late Late Show.
When Gay Byrne retired as host of the The Late Late Show in 1999, Pat Kenny was seen as the heir-apparent to take over the vacant slot on Friday nights. While Kenny has stated that he would've preferred to bring his own Kenny Live show to the vacant Late Late Show slot, he was told by the RTÉ management that this was not an option. Instead he decided to "put Kenny Live on ice" and take up the position as host of the "Late Late." Kenny Live has remained off the air since then. However, many consider his version of the Late Late Show to simply be Kenny Live, with a new name.
