He came to the station after 12 years in the market at KRNA. Before Soboroff purchased the station in 1994, he was co-owner of KFMH, now KBEA, in Muscatine, Iowa. Soboroff upgraded the 1000 watt KCJJ station at 1560 to its present power at 1630. The "Double-J" covers much of eastern Iowa and western Illinois. It is one of the few locally owned and operated stations in eastern Iowa. Beginning on September 24, 2007, KCJJ began broadcasting from their new studios in Coralville's Iowa River Landing. The move was made to better serve their core audience.
[edit] Lineup
The morning show runs weekdays from 5am to 10:30am and is hosted by Stephen Soboroff (Captain Steve) and Tommy Lang (Thomas Langenberg). The morning show contains Money Wheel of Crime, Local Police Reports and other news information. A regular guest named Gabby (a cross between a local transient and Western film supporting actor Gabby Hayes) often yells during the morning show for no apparent reason. Furthermore, the "Invisible Man" and "Driving While Suspended" bits are sure to be heard most mornings.
At midday, Kelly Neff hosts a rock and roll oldies show. Neff has worked in Eastern Iowa for over 30 years and is also the sports commentator for local high school athletics.
Thomas Suter, also known as Suterman, has a weekend talk show and is a part of the weekday morning show.
From 2pm to 6pm, the station carries the Mike O' Meara show from WJFK in Washington, D.C.
The station also carries NASCAR, as well as various high school sports contests from around the Eastern Iowa area, with Kelly Neff as lead play-by-play.
At night and on the weekends, they run a satellite-fed hot adult contemporary format from Dial Global.
