From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kathi Carey is an American film actress, writer, director and singing entertainer. She started playing the piano at the age of 4 and was considered a "child prodigy" in music. Her accomplishments include winning the Bank of America award for Fine Arts for the State of California, the Chopin Piano Award and performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 (the "Elvira Madigan") as a high-school student, for which she composed her own cadenzas. She also performed another one of her own compositions at the UNICEF concert at San Jose State University as a high-schooler, as well. She then went on to a singing career, performing in the major showrooms of Reno, Tahoe and Las Vegas as a featured singer or opening act for Bill Cosby, Roy Clarke and Peggy Fleming.

Her acting career includes appearances on the critically-acclaimed L.A. local cable series "(Interview)", a number of independent features which include "Dead Right," "Double Cross" and "Terminal Velocity" and a stint on the cutting-edge internet soap opera "Confessions" where she was also the "icon" for the series. In fact, Kathi wrote and directed several of the "webisodes" and was featured as both actress and writer/director in a number of articles written about the series in newspapers all across the country.

Most recently Kathi turned her attention to writing and directing as well as acting. "Reflections of a Life," an award-winning short film and her industry debut as writer/director, is a love story about a woman who has experienced and overcome her share of heartache, only to discover that she has breast cancer. Kathi also stars in this film, alongside Linda Gray and Fredric Lane. Among the various awards the film has received are the Jury's Gold Medal for Artistic Achievement for Music in a Short Film from the Park City Film Music Festival in 2006, the 'Gold' Special Jury Remi from Worldfest in 2006, "Best Drama" from the San Francisco Women's Film Festival in 2006, two Honors from the Long Island International Film Expo -- one for the music and one for the acting of Fredric Lane in 2006, a Telly Awards in 2006, "Best of the Fest -- Best Short" from the Reel Women International Film Festival in Beverly Hills in 2007 and an Honorable Mention from the Rochester International Film Festival in 2007. It is also interesting to note that the Method Fest, a festival noted for selecting and showcasing breakout acting performances in independent, story-driven films, honored Ms. Carey with a nomination for "Best Actress in a Short Film" also in 2007.
