John-Michael Liles (born November 25, 1980, in Zionsville, Indiana) is a professional hockey defenceman for the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL.

[edit] High School career
Liles attended Culver Military Academy and lettered in hockey and golf. In hockey, he was the varsity "B" team's MVP. He also played on the Varsity "A" team as a sophomore.

Liles was drafted by the Avalanche in the 5th round, 159th overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
Before joining the Colorado Avalanche, Liles played college hockey for the Michigan State Spartans, where he was recognized as a star offensive defenceman. During his senior season with the Spartans, Liles led the team in scoring (with 16 goals and 34 assists) while helping Michigan State to a 23–14–2 record. Liles was also a finalist for the Hobey Baker award.
Liles was the CCHA Best Offensive Defensemen for two years in a row, and scored an average of 1.28 points per game for the Michigan State Spartans.

After scoring 10 goals and recording 24 assists in his rookie season in 2003–04, he was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team. During the NHL lockout, he played pro hockey in the German League DEL for the team of the Iserlohn Roosters.
Liles returned to the Avalanche for the 2005–06 season. He is currently still on the roster.
