[edit] Orthography changes
Just to note, I've amended the orthography from Itz'amná to Itzamnaaj, which is a more recent and common transcription closer to the modern orthography now widely used. Mayan doesn't use accented vowels, and tz' would be incorrect since the phoneme here is [ʦ], not the ejective [ʦ’] one.
One more point, I think that there is general acceptance there was at least one ruler who "officially" held power during the so-called 10-year interregnum between Itzamnaaj B'alam and Yaxun B'alam/Bird Jaguar (IV), so it wouldn't really be accurate to portray Yaxun B'alam as his successor. Inscriptions at Piedras Negras identify Yopaat B'alam II as ruler in Yaxchilan in 749. --cjllw ʘ TALK 06:41, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
