This template is the project banner for WikiProject Mesoamerica, a WikiProject concerned with the improvement of content, coverage and organisation of articles and other materials relating to Mesoamerica and its historical civilizations and cultures.

The template is to be placed on talk pages of the articles identified as being within the Project's scope (at or near the top of the talkpage). It contains some brief information and links for the Project, and also an expandable view of the Project's current priority open tasklist.

This template automatically assigns the category Category:WikiProject Mesoamerica articles to the articles' talk pages. This category and other associated Project categories are used in various ways by the Project in the overall management of the Project's workload.

This template contains several (optional) parameters, details of usage are given below.

Contents

Usage instructions

Defined parameters and their valid values for this template are as follows:

{{WP Mesoamerica
 |class=[one of: FA | A | GA | B | start | stub | NA ]
 |importance=[one of: top | high | mid | low ]
 |aztec=yes
 |attention=yes
 |reassess=yes
 |merge=yes
 |needs-infobox=yes
 |dab=yes
 |cat=yes
 |nested=yes
}}

The parameters are named, and (if used) must be entered exactly as-is (note, all are lowercase).

The class and importance parameters are associated with the Project's article assessment and rating scheme. These parameters add a category to the talkpage, which category depends on the values chosen.

Parameter values

class

This optional parameter records the Project quality assessment rating currently assigned to the particular article on whose talkpage the project banner appears.

If unassigned, or an invalid value is given, the parameter defaults to "unassigned" and the template places the talkpage into Category:Unassessed Mesoamerica articles.

Valid values for this parameter, their associated meanings and categories are given in the table below. Values should be typed as shown (eg |class=GA ):

Class parameter values (Category:Mesoamerica articles by quality)
Value Meaning Category
FA Articles which are currently Featured status articles FA-Class Mesoamerica articles
A A-class articles; A-Class Mesoamerica articles
GA Articles with a current Good article status GA-Class Mesoamerica articles
B B-class articles; B-Class Mesoamerica articles
Start Start-class articles; Start-Class Mesoamerica articles
Stub Stub-class articles; Stub-Class Mesoamerica articles
NA Not applicable; for miscellaneous pages which do not require an assessment Non-article Mesoamerica pages

importance

This optional parameter records the Project priority assessment rating currently assigned to the particular article on whose talkpage the project banner appears.

If unassigned, or an invalid value is given, or the class parameter is set to "NA", the parameter defaults to "unassigned" and the template places the talkpage into Category:Unassigned-importance Mesoamerica articles.

Valid values for this parameter, their associated meanings and categories are given in the table below. Values should be typed as shown (eg |importance=Mid ):

Importance parameter values (Category:Mesoamerica articles by importance)
Value Meaning Category
Top For "key" articles, considered indispensable to any survey of Mesoamerica Top-importance Mesoamerica articles
High For High-priority topics and needed subtopics of "key" articles High-importance Mesoamerica articles
Mid For Mid-priority articles on more specialised (sub-)topics Mid-importance Mesoamerica articles
Low For still notable, but more highly-specialised or even obscure topics Low-importance Mesoamerica articles

aztec

This optional parameter is used to also identify the article as relevant to the scope of the WP:AZTEC 'task force' (formerly a separate descendent WikiProject of WP:MESO but now in practice operating within WP:MESO project space). Note that the WP:AZTEC project banner {{WP Aztec}} now redirects to {{WP Mesoamerica}}, and this separate project banner is no longer maintained- use this parameter instead.

If used, the parameter also assigns the relevant -class and -importance ratings categories for WP:AZTEC.

To set this parameter flag, use |aztec=yes .

attention

This optional parameter is used as a flag to identify the article as in need of particular attention and review, such as in cases of dubious factual material or POV concerns.

If used, the parameter adds the Category:Mesoamerica articles needing attention. This category is monitored by the Project.

To set this parameter flag, use |attention=yes .

reassess

This optional parameter is used as a flag to identify the article as in need of an independent or second-opinion assessment of its current or proposed Project assessment rating, such as after making substantial revisions to the article, or where the status may be unclear or even disputed.

If used, the parameter adds the Category:Mesoamerica articles needing reassessment. This category is monitored by the Project.

To set this parameter flag, use |reassess=yes .

merge

This optional parameter is used as a flag to identify articles which have been proposed for merging (eg in the case where duplicate articles on the same item have been created, or where an article might be better to include as part of another). It should be set for each of the article versions requiring merge action assessment, and can be removed once the merger action is determined and the material is merged and redirected (or deleted).

If used, the parameter adds the Category:Mesoamerica articles needing merge action. This category is monitored by the Project.

To set this parameter flag, use |merge=yes .

needs-infobox

This optional parameter is used as a flag to identify articles which would benefit from having one of the various Mesoamerican Infobox templates added to it and populated.

If used, the parameter adds the Category:Mesoamerica articles needing infoboxes. This category is monitored by the Project.

To set this parameter flag, use |infobox-needed=yes .

dab

This optional parameter is used as a flag to identify disambiguation (dab) pages on which a number of Mesoamerica-related target articles are listed. Links in other articles to these dab pages are to be periodically monitored by the project (via the "what links here" feature) and amended/resolved to a direct link to the intended target article, per the context in which that link appears.

If used, the parameter adds the Category:Mesoamerica disambiguation pages. This category is monitored by the Project.

The class parameter should also be set to NA for these non-article dab pages.

To set this parameter flag, use |dab=yes .

cat

This optional parameter is used as a flag to identify categories which contain Mesoamerica-related articles. These categories are to be periodically monitored by the project for the appropriateness of their entries and the overall organisation of the Mesoamerican category scheme.

If used, the parameter adds the Category:WikiProject Mesoamerica categories. This overall category is monitored by the Project.

The class parameter should also be set to NA for these non-article category pages.

To set this parameter flag, use |cat=yes .

nested

This optional parameter is provided for compatability with {{WikiProjectBannerShell}}, a talkpage template which may sometimes be used to collapse mutliple project banners into only a single line each (to avoid talk page clutter). See the documentation of that template for details. It allows the WP:MESO project banner to be included in that template, and must be set as |cat=yes when {{WikiProjectBannerShell}} is applied. It does not need to be, and should not be, set if {{WikiProjectBannerShell}} is not in use.
