[edit] History

This article is lacking a history section. For the ignorant reader (such as myself), Islamabad presents a number of questions, such as: is it an artificial city, why was such a small city made capital of Pakistan, what is the relationship with Rawalpindi, etc. The current article answers none of these questions. --LarsMarius 22:38, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Islamabad اسلام آباد

"Islam-is-bad" I don't believe the name came from this

اسلام آباد

Salam guys! I changed the name of the Pic from "Parliament House" to "Secretariat", because that's what it is. Also, added a night pic of the actual Parliament House. Waqas.usman 12:54, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

Finished fixing the grammar and spelling. Megane 16:06, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Dear Friends ISLAM AABA'D (Islamabad) means Residence of Islam or a Place where is Islam, and Simply You can Say a City of PEACE. (PEACE (talk) 01:30, 27 March 2008 (UTC))

[edit] Too many pictures

__earth 14:06, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
I think showing pictures is a good idea, with all the bad repo Isloo is receiving. After all pics show Islamabad they dont show Gujranwala digitalSurgeon 09:42, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
There are some really good pics added now, however, some people are removing them and vandilising them. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.179.165.128 (talk) 21:22, 9 February 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Islamabad History

You say that one of the reasons for Islamabad's founding is that it is close to the GHQ, but you do not say what the GHQ is, or what those letters stand for. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidlew9 (talk • contribs) 17:40, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Islamabad, city (1998 pop. 524,500), capital of Pakistan, NE Pakistan, just NE of Rawalpindi, the former interim capital. Construction of Islamabad [city of Islam] as the capital, replacing Karachi, began in 1960. There are light manufacturing industries. Points of interest include Pakistan House, the home of the president; the national assembly building; the National Univ.; the Grand National Mosque; and the botanical gardens. The nearby Murree Hills serve as a summer resort as well as summer headquarters for many diplomatic missions. Also near the city are the historical ruins of Taxila.

[edit] Forested area.

Hi this article contains an inaccuracy. It is claimed that Islamabad was built on heavily forested land but that is incorrect. Islamabad was built on a what can be described as scrub land. Three million seeds were sown (not that the majority of them became actual trees) to create the green effect of today. Trees good!

[edit] Correction Needed

  • First please change the awful main picture to a high resolution one...possibly with a entire view of the city from Damin-e-Koh.
  • Second, please correct the spelling of Islamabad at the top of the picture.

[edit] Rewording

The "Tourism and Sightseeing" part reads vaguely like a travel brochure to Islamabad. I don't know enough to rewrite this section, but someone needs to.--TelevisedRevolution 07:51, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Economy

It would be really helpful to have a section on the economy and industries of Islamabad in this piece. Karachi has a section which might serve to inspire any budding economists here, and even has a separate article on the Economy of Karachi! NB I have also added the Wikiproject Pakistan template to this article. -- TinaSparkle 22:07, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lal Masjid Controversy

I dont think this section should be part of Islamabad, it can come somewhere under article Lal Masjid.

Saqib —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 210.2.163.77 (talk) 09:24, 15 February 2007 (UTC).

Yes, the issue has nothing to do with the description of the city itself. It should be removed. 450w 07:08, 26 February 2007 (UTC) 450w

[edit] History

I've removed the "danyal" tribe part from the history. It's about the history of the city, not some tribe for godssake! Also, I've added a couple of citations in the History section. Akeeq 08:40, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

The acronym "GHQ" is not defined and is not clear (at least to me) from the context. I made no change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.92.150.6 (talk) 22:40, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Linkis missing

Pl add link after that i may recomend it for FA class.a member of wp pakistan. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.81.219.219 (talk) 14:19, 22 April 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Pk-sindh.PNG

Image:Pk-sindh.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:51, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Modern Islamabad

I think more should be added regarding the recent changes taking place in Islamabad. This article gives a somewhat dated picture of the city, because in the past two years it has expanded dramatically with brand new roads, a rapidly increasing population and rise in political violence. -->bandishhh 19 June 2007.

Recent edits to the Tourism and Sightseeing section may violate NPOV as they read like promotional literature. Consider cleanup in a more NPOV style --Careless hx 11:33, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Map request

Map needed
It is requested that a map or maps be included in this article to improve its quality.
Wikipedians in Pakistan may be able to help!

A locator map and one showing the zones and major internal features would be useful. -- Beland 16:02, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Red Mosque

Is there not even one mention of this event? Mallerd 14:32, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Heavy Cleanup and New List

I did some heavy cleanup on this article. It looks much better now. I moved that long list of places into a new article titled List of Notable Places in Islamabad. That article is fairly underdeveloped and could use some editing from the usual editors of this article. This article also could use copy editing, and it is definitely not a Stub, as rated by the Cities project. I suggest getting it reassessed. It however needs lost of referencing as there are currently only 2 references.  UzEE  05:21, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Please don't make false Wikilinks in the name of cleanup! --SMS Talk 07:39, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
What is a false wikilink? Kingturtle (talk) 14:09, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
I would also like to know that?  UzEE  08:56, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
This [1] as was done in this edit [2]. --SMS Talk 09:59, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes I believe I removed an unnecessary blank space (&nbsp) character from the infobox. It was pretty pointless to add it there. But Im afraid I dont get your point? What is a false wikilink?  UzEE  10:06, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
I told, what was done wrong! and you got it! no need to discuss it further(waste of time).--SMS Talk 12:44, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Faisal Mosque picture

Why no good, big Faisal Mosque picture? It should be the main picture like it was before. It is the most prominent landmark of Islamabad. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mik357 (talkcontribs) 22:13, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
