Interstate 276 (abbreviated I-276) is a segment of the Pennsylvania Turnpike mainline running from Interstate 76 in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania to the Pennsylvania/New Jersey border at the Delaware River, where it connects with the New Jersey Turnpike extension. The part between the I-95 overpass and the Delaware River will become I-95 once the Pennsylvania Turnpike/Interstate 95 Interchange Project is finished; the New Jersey side is already designated I-95, but it is not signed as such. The highway, originally designated as Interstate 280 when the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Ohio state line and Valley Forge was I-80S, received its present number in 1964 when I-80S became I-76.

[edit] Route description

Interstate 276 westbound on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Whitemarsh Township.

I-276 begins at Valley Forge, exit 326 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike when I-276 meets I-76 near the King of Prussia Mall at a current construction project on the Pennsylvania Turnpike from exit 326 to exit 333. I-276 meets I-476 at the Mid-County Interchange at exit 20 and as an alternate exit 333. I-476 northward is the Northeast extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-476 southward is a free limited access road called The Blue Route. I-276 continues mostly as a 6 laned highway from the I-476 interchange. At exit 339 the Fort Washington exit, I-276 meets PA 309. On mile marker 340 and only westbound lanes, I-276 has a slip ramp for Virginia Drive and is E-ZPass only. At exit 343, I-276 meets PA 611 at the Willow Grove exit. At exit 351, I-276 meets US 1 at the Philadelphia exit. At mile marker 355 in Bristol Township, a future interchange called Pennsylvania Turnpike/Interstate 95 Interchange Project will be constructed that will connect I-276 with I-95 and I-276 will end at this point when the project will be completed. Before the Tolls, I-276 meets US 13 at the Delaware Valley exit (358). According to some sources, I-276 ends crossing the Delaware River into New Jersey but some maps have the I-276 shield on the New Jersey Turnpike extension.
