Hródvitnir

In Norse mythology, Hródvitnir ("Famous Wolf") is another name for Fenrir, the wolf that was bound by the gods until he breaks free at Ragnarök and kills Odin. The association with Fenrir is found in Lokasenna, when Loki is reminding Týr about his painful encounter with the wolf, to which Týr responds:

"I lack my hand, but you lack Hródvitnir

a baleful loss for each.

Nor does the wolf fare well, who in bonds

shall await the judgement of the gods."

Fenrir's son Hati, the wolf who is destined to swallow the moon, is given the surname Hródvitnisson, or the "son of Hródvitnir", mentioned in both Grímnismál and Gylfaginning.
