In context it doesn't make much difference. But backbenchers are in government. They aren't in the cabinet, or the ministry. But they are in government. Just as labor backbenchers are not in the shadow ministry, but they are part of the opposition.

I have consulted a number of sources, and I'm certain you're wrong. Legally, the government is the governor-general and his executive council. By convention, the government is the cabinet. Either way, backbenchers are by definition not in government. Hesperian 08:59, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

No. My point is that the cabinet, plus the outer ministry, plus government backbenchers make up the "government", as Australians know it. Of course, given that we're still a constitutional monarchy, the Queen (or her governor general) are the only ones who can sign anything into law. But to argue that "government" backbenchers are not part of the government is absurd. Anyway, in the case of your edit of the John Howard article, I agree "party" is a more appropriate word than "government", so maybe we should let it rest there. Alan Baskin 03:50, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

I saw your edits to Wittenoom, Western Australia, and thought I'd blue the red link to Edward Wittenoom. Also did Charles Wittenoom, and turned Wittenoom into a disambig. In the process I discovered that Frank was Edward's brother, not his son, so made a correction to the town article. Hi Hesperian. I recently had a bore hole drilled near Toodyay and the diviner used Hesperian trees to line up with where he said the water stream was as he said they always are above a deep water source.

I am writing this however, because you removed the Toodyay Community forum (toodyay.tv)link. Its not commercial. However toodyay.com is purely commercial and it is still there. The www.toodyay.tv site is a new community forum and in a town as small as Toodyay, for it to have over 1000 hits per day it means it is of interest to toodyay people. With no advertising its now being visited by people from the UK and South Africa even. Its not a personal website. Politics, historic, strategy historical policy drafts etc are discussed, downloadable etc. Its just started but already is a a valuable resource on Toodyay and will grow in the months ahead.

Is the intention for this category to include both present and former members of the Senate? If so, we can add Grant Tambling. I note that we do not seem to have an article for Bob Collins who as a Keating minister in notable. Aha -the locality cinches it! I just figutred it out - it is a Banksia integrifolia monticola in late bud, this subspecies parallels the coastal integrifolia up the NSW coast from mt Wilson northwards - cool photo cheers Cas Liber Banksia Study Group leader

Yeah, I noticed your edits to some of the cricketers on my watchlist. Looked into it, and decided to metadata-ise my article contributions. Big job. It's surprising how long it takes to manually extract this info from an article. If only we had some metadata we could automate the process of entering the metadata! By the time we've finished a clever person will get around to writing a javascript app or something which scrapes the data out of the article. You should be able to get the lastname, first name from the categories and a string search in the opening sentence for date and places of birth/death. 80-90% success I reckon. -- I@n ≡ talk 02:10, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Ian Elliot when last spoken with a year or so ago was intrigued by the extent to which some locations will try to make him one of theirs when there isnt any evidence to back it up, ie the myths around him are as interesting as the facts. I havent read the art yet, will get back later. Oh and in relation to your message, I could well put something up that will rock the socks later on, but for the moment its agonizing over lost people and lost things in Yogya and Dilli, and trying to get the cubic metres of paper/books/things out of storage and into a home base! Big project of mine is to do something on 29 due to the facct that may fathers collection had significant items from it. maybe I'll have to write something, then paraphrase an art later in the year - so as to not fall into the orig research trap. The basic distinctions are the nature of perth between 1929, 1979 and 2004 - something like smallness with strong community continuity in 29, emerging court era 'development' phase in 79, and the thoroughly dispersed community of 2004 where significant parts of the community probably didnt even realise it was on or what it was about!! The 2004 is a very good contrast with 79, as the 'grip' on a centrality in the community is increasingly tenuous (IMHO  :) ) with a much more fragmented community - spatially, and many other ways. just an idea ? I am so far out of my field here! Thanks for taking the time to leave a message. Geez, I grew up in a place where one or the other of those things were dead on the side of the road all the time — you'd think I'd have learned about 'em!

Since, like me, probably most people mistakenly assume they're the same animal, what do you think about a one-sentence disambig line at the top of each article? I'm thinking something like, at Possum, "For the similarly named but different marsupial opossum, see ______", and vice-versa? (Off-topic, seeing the post above, I'd note that aside from intrinsic human worth, adopting and raising kids certainly does promote survival of the species ... as if war and pollution aren't gonna kill us first!) -- Tenebrae 12:32, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

aha-we were editing at exactly the same time. I embellished the subspecies. I compiled the list of cultivars myself and it was written in a Banksia Study Group Newsletter (which I wrote) a couple of years ago. ACRA (on the ANBG website) and PBR list a few of them. I will work on that. Am currently at work. Thanks for tidying it up, I have always been a bit of a slob.
