according to Mort Walker's introduction to Outrageously Pogo, published by Fireside in 1985, Fisher's gripes with Al Capp at the National Cartoonists Society started when he claimed that some of Capp's characters in Li'l Abner were stolen from Joe Palooka. Walker makes no mention of wage disputes. This may want to be looked at further when the rest of the article is written.
