"Gossip" is the first single from Lil Wayne's EP, The Leak.[1] The single was officially released December 18, 2007 to the iTunes Store. This song is sampled from Margie Joseph's "Stop In The Name Of Love".

[edit] Background

HipHopDX.com reported that "Gossip" would originally be included on the Tha Carter III and is indirectly aimed at 50 Cent,[2] but would actually turn out to have no relativity to 50 Cent as confirmed by Lil Wayne in an interview with VIBE and XXL, while actually appearing on Tha Carter III: The Leak.[1][3] Lil Wayne told VIBE the following about the supposed "beef",

I'm not gonna murder a rapper, that's like a cliche. I don't wanna kill 50 Cent! Because he got fans. I don't know who's riding with him! I don't need beef with niggas that I dont know. I don't know how many people like 50 . So if he said Lil Wayne's a hoe, Lil Wayne's a hoe. The word whore, that's a nigga who be smashing a lot, like fucking a lot[3]

He also denied to XXL directly, and confirmed that the song doesn't take any jabs at 50 Cent, while telling MTV the same.[1][4] He explained to MTV that the song was recorded in 2006 and that he doesn't "make records or say anything about people – Everyone knows that."[4] The song was due to be released between August and September 2007, however Lil Wayne premiered the song at the 2007 BET Hip Hop Awards.[5]
