George Washington McCrary (August 29, 1835 – June 23, 1890) was a Congressman from Iowa and a United States Secretary of War. He was a member of the United States Republican Party.
McCrary was born near Evansville, Indiana in 1835. Later, he moved with his parents to Iowa territory.
He was a member of Iowa state house of representatives in 1857. Then he was a member of Iowa state senate between 1861 and 1865. He served as a U.S. Representative from Iowa, 1st District between 1869 and 1877. He served as the Secretary of War under President Rutherford B. Hayes between 1877 and 1879, when he resigned. He was later a Judge of U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit between 1880 and 1884. He died in Saint Joseph, Missouri in 1890.
