This article shows the main future developments in the city of Singapore. Most developments are found in the New Downtown, the Marina Bay.

[edit] The Sail @ Marina Bay
The Sail @ Marina Bay is a waterfront lifestyle condominium located in the Marina Bay area in Singapore. It is expected to be completed in 2009. The structure of The Sail is 245 metres and 70 storeys high and will be Singapore's tallest condominium/apartment and among the top 10 tallest residential building in the world.
[edit] Ocean Financial Centre
The Ocean Financial Centre will be located at the Raffles Place MRT Station and will primarily house financial companies.
[edit] Marina Bay Sands
As Singapore's first Integrated Resort, the Marina Bay Sands will serve as a venue for conventions and exhibitions. It will offer a wide range of leisure products, such as two 2,000-seat theatres, an ArtScience museum, and floating pavilions.[1]
The main design of the Marina Bay Sands consist of three 245-metre high hotels linked together by a SkyPark, low-rise MICE facilities, theatres, and a casino.
[edit] Marina Bay Financial Centre
The Marina Bay Financial Centre, is a multi-phase development located along Marina Boulevard at Marina Bay, Singapore. It will be the largest office development to date in the city in terms of gross floor area when fully completed.

South Beach is a planned commercial and residential complex to be located on Beach Road in the Downtown Core of Singapore. The new development will comprise offices, two hotels, shops and residences. The complex is scheduled for completion in 2012.

Situated next to the Cathay Cineleisure, it will be completed by end of 2009 in time for the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics.
[edit] ION Orchard
ION Orchard, a new shopping centre development by CapitaLand, will stand at 218 metres. It is located at the prime shopping district of Singapore, Orchard Road. This shopping centre will have over 400 food and retail outlets when completed in 2008.[2]
[edit] Somerset Central
It will be situated above the Somerset MRT Station. Developed by Lend Lease Retail Investment, the development site has a 95 metre street frontage to Orchard Road and a 70 metre exposure to Somerset Road. The project will accommodate eight levels of retail including three levels below ground and feature over 180 retailers. The centre’s vision is to be a leading destination in the mid to upper-mid level fashion, food and lifestyle offer. It is expected to be completed by end of 2009.
[edit] Orchard Central
Orchard Central, marketed as "Singapore's first Vertical Mall",[3] will feature eleven stories above ground and two below of interactive multimedia and retail. Like ION Orchard it will have over 400 food and retail outlets and promise to be a locally recognized landmark. It is being developed by the Far East Organization. It is scheduled to be opened by end of 2008.
[edit] Resorts World at Sentosa
The new Resorts World at Sentosa will house Singapore's second casino. Other attractions include Universal Studios Singapore and many other shops.
[edit] Sports Hub
The Singapore Sports Hub at Kallang will replace the National Stadium of Singapore. The expected year of completion is 2011. On January 19, 2008, it was announced that the Singapore Sports Hub consortium would develop the Sports Hub.
[edit] Jurong Lake District
The Urban Redevelopment Authority announced on April 4, 2008 the blueprint for Jurong Lake District. The vision for Jurong Lake District is to transform it into a unique lakeside destination for business and leisure in the next 10 to 15 years.[4]

[edit] Circle MRT Line (CCL)
The Circle MRT Line, which is already under construction, will be Singapore's fourth Mass Rapid Transit line. It will open in five phases and is set to be fully operational in 2010. It is expected to reduce travel time for those not going to the city center and to reduce congestion by allowing passengers to bypass the crowded central area stations.
Originally projected to cost $6.7 billion, the budget has been increased a number of times due to increases in the price of sand, gravel, and concrete. The line will be 33.3 km in length and service 29 stations. It will start from the Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station and end at the HarbourFront MRT Station.[5]
[edit] Downtown MRT Line (DTL)
The Downtown MRT Line is a future 33-station Mass Rapid Transit line, with 11 stations linked to the existing MRT network. It is estimated to cost $1.4 billion,[6] and is slated for construction once the Circle Line is complete. It will be completed by 2018. It will connect the north-west and east of the island to the central business district and Marina Bay. Its schematic profile, station names as well as alpha-numeric and end-destination codes are subject to confirmation.[7]
Most of the stations will be underground to optimise land use and minimise land acquisition. When completed, the DTL will add 40 km to the current network's 109 km of track as well as the upcoming Circle Line's 37 km.[8] The Land Transport Authority claims the DTL will enhance accessibility to the new downtown, cut travel time and improve connectivity on the existing MRT network.
[edit] Eastern Region Line (ERL)
On 27 April 2007, plans for the Eastern Region MRT Line was revived,[9] this time consisting only of the southern half of what was a continuous loop involving Stage 3 of the Downtown Line. The new 21-kilometre route will have 12 stations, commencing from Marina South and onwards to Marina East, Tanjong Rhu, Siglap, Marine Parade and Bedok South, terminating further north at Changi.[10] The underground line is expected to be completed by 2020.
[edit] Thomson Line (TSL)
Also announced was the new Thomson MRT Line which will extend from the western end of the Eastern Region MRT Line and link it to the northern part of Singapore. En-route, the 27-kilometre line will connect from Marina South through the Central Business District and up through Ang Mo Kio all the way to Woodlands connecting estates such as Sin Ming, Kebun Baru, Thomson and Kim Seng which do not now have a direct MRT link.[11] Completion of the 18-station line, also fully underground, is expected in 2018.[9]
[edit] Boon Lay Extension (East West Line)
The plan for the first Boon Lay MRT Extension (BLE) to the existing East West MRT Line was announced by the Land Transport Authority on 29 December 2004. The 3.81-kilometre, two-station extension will extend westward from Boon Lay MRT Station, with one station along Jurong West Street 63 (station name: Pioneer), between Jurong West Street 61 and Pioneer Road North, and the second station at Joo Koon Circle (station name: Joo Koon), near the junction of Benoi Road and International Road.
The fully elevated extension will cost about S$436 million, which is expected to be completed by 2009. Construction works commenced on 11 March 2006.[12] The alignment of the extension along Jurong West Street 63, Upper Jurong Road, and International Road has required the acquisition of 28,000 square metres of land.[13]
[edit] Tuas Extension (East West Line)
On 25 January 2008, the government announced a further 14-kilometre extension beyond Joo Koon Station into Tuas, involving the building of another five stations.[9] The latest extension is slated for completion by 2015, with provisions made for a future branch line into Tuas South.[14]
The Tuas Extension will be fully elevated.
[edit] Marina Bay Extension (North South Line)
It is announced that North South MRT Line will be extended by a kilometre southwards beyond Marina Bay MRT Station to serve the Marina Bay area, such as the new International Cruise Terminal which is currently under construction.[9] The extension will involve one new station planned for completion by 2015.[15]
The Marina Bay Extension will be fully underground.
[edit] Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE)
The 5km Marina Coastal Expressway will be built along the coastal lines of the new downtown, and will link the area to the eastern and western parts of Singapore. It is slated for completion by end 2013.
[edit] North-South Expressway (NSE)
The 21km North-South Expressway will stretch from Woodlands and Sembawang to the western end of the East Coast Parkway, relieving traffic on the congested Central Expressway. It is slated for completion by 2020.
[edit] Changi Airport Terminal Four
There have been plans to built a new passenger terminal, Terminal Four, at Singapore Changi Airport. The details for the construction is not known yet.[16]
[edit] International Cruise Terminal
The International Cruise Terminal, Singapore will be constructed in the Marina South area, near the existing Marina South Pier. Following complaints from international cruise line companies about poor facilities at the Singapore Cruise Centre, the new terminal will be large enough to accommodate the largest cruise ships in the world and is believed to help position Singapore as the homeport for many Asian cruise companies. Work is scheduled to begin in June of 2008 and will be finished by 2010.[17]

[edit] Double Helix Bridge
The Double Helix Bridge, located in Marina Bay, is a unique pedestrian bridge. The Land Transport Authority claims it as a world's first in architectural & engineering bridge design.[18] It will connect the existing hotel, retail & convention hub & Singapore Flyer and the upcoming Marina Bay Sands, linking up the necklace of public spaces & attractions.[19]
It will include five viewing platforms at strategic locations that allow views out to the Singapore skyline and events taking place within Marina Bay.[20] At night, the bridge will be illuminated by night lighting with a series of lights that will highlight the double-helix structure, thus enhancing the crossing experience and view of the bridge from around the Bay.[21]
[edit] Marina Barrage
The Marina Barrage is a dam being built in Singapore across the Marina Channel between the reclaimed lands of Marina East and Marina South. It will be completed after 2007, turning the Marina Bay and Kallang Basin into a new downtown freshwater reservoir.

Other developments include the Gardens by the Bay, Reflections at Keppel Bay, the Pinnacle@Duxton, Seafront living at Woodlands, Youth Olympic Games Village and the Marina South Pier.
