Fetu’u Vainikolo is a New Zealand Rugby Union player who plays provincial rugby for Northland, and is in the Super 14 team the Highlanders.
[edit] Highlanders
Vainikolo was drafted into the highlanders after a promising first season for Northland. With five tries out of his ten matches for northland, he was already seen as a player with the ability to score tries no matter where he was. With speed combined with strength, the tongan born star was snaped up by the southern franchise looking to re-build their team.
[edit] Backround
Fetu’u was born in the tongan village Haalalo, on 30 Jan 1985. His family moved to NZ in 1997 when he was 12 (Fetu'u now lives in Whangarei). He played his club rugby for the Marist club and represented Auckland at U19 & Colts levels before joining the Wellsford club in 2007. Although he was named in the Northland Sevens squad to go down to Queenstown, he never acually played as he was back in Tonga attending a funeral at the time.
