[edit] History

The first sporting club in Urziceni was a football club called "Ialomiţa". On the improved pitch from Obor, the football team "Ialomiţa" played against teams from Ploieşti, Buzău, and Slobozia. They also played many games against Germans settled around local lake, from which they took the name “La Nemţi” (“At the Germans'”).

In 1976 a new stadium was inaugurated – Tineretului - at the exit from the city to Manasia, near Hagienoff’s vineyards. In 1988 Unirea Urziceni qualified in the last 16th round of Romanian Cup. They were then defeated by Corvinul Hunedoara, 3 - 1. In 1988-’89, Unirea finished 2nd in the third division, playing against Dunărea Călăraşi to advance into the second division. In 2002 the team was taken over by a new sponsor, Valahorum, changing the whole board. After 6 months the stadium was expanded to 7000 seats and the lockers were upgraded. In 2003 the new F.C. Unirea Valahorum Urziceni won promotion to the second division for the first time in its history.

Then in 2006 came Unirea's best showing ever when it advanced to the top level of Romanian football, Liga I.
