Curtze DYK

Thanks for letting me know. I was on my way back to Erie when I found out. I'm quite excited. Thanks for the suggestion to try DYK. I'll have to try it again sometime. --Pat (talk) 07:55, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:State seal of Pennsylvania.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:State seal of Pennsylvania.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:37, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Erie Gladiators

I wedged in the Erie origins of American Gladiators (1989 TV series) into the article. I think it ought to stick, but will doubtless be revised a few times. The wrestlers have been wrestling with the article since the 2008 version of the show came on the air recently. It was a difficult time to discuss its Erie origins in 1983. --Pat (talk) 05:27, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Hearts Content

Hearts Content, Pennsylvania is definetly wrong. That seems to imply that it is a townsip, borough or city. I would go with the Fed name. They have jurisdiction over it. Correct? Dincher (talk) 21:51, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Good change. Thanks for making it. Pennsylvania is short on apostrhophes. See Worlds End State Park. The lack of one of these (') was a question on the talk page that took some explaining. Dincher (talk) 23:26, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Hmmm. The USGS GNIS has it as "Hearts Conent Recreation Site" with "Hearts Content Recreation Area" as one of three alternate names [1]. The USGS topo maps have it as Hearts Content Recreation Area [2]. I think I would leave it where it is since the Forest service uses that. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:53, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
PS Pennsylvania also has Larrys Creek and Plunketts Creek lacking apostrophes. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:53, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Good idea, redirects are especially useful in cases like this Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:33, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

You should be able to get a free image at the Fed website. I could add it later in the week, but not anytime soon. Dincher (talk) 01:13, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I agree. None were too impressive. Sounds like a wikitrip for somebody that lives in the area. (Not me) Dincher (talk) 01:23, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad

Do you think I should add a WikiProject Erie flag to my new article on Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad? Feel free to add an info box and edit the article as you see fit. The story was on the front page of the City and Region section of the ETN on Sunday. We did decide to include outlying counties, so Meadville seems to fit the parameters. But you've got a better eye for such things. --Pat (talk) 05:22, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

    • Go for it. Good idea. I'm working on a Congressmen of Erie page, in chronological order, showing districts with Congressmen as bullets below. I'm using the 1884 History of Erie Co as a guide. What a twisted history! The format will surely need some work. Thought I'd throw something up there. I'll link it to the Erie page. Sound ok? --Pat (talk) 03:55, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Gender Neutral

Do you have any thoughts on whether I need to go gender neutral on the List of Congressmen who have represented Erie, Pennsylvania piece I posted recently? It dawns on me that there is a trend towards using Member of Congress instead. I think mine might be the first such article of this sort, so I'd hate to start a trend with a boorish title at the top. If it needs to be changed, could you explain how it's done or point to a Wiki page that explains the process? If it can't wait a couple of days, feel free to make the change yourself but I'd still be interested in knowing how to do it in the future. Thanks, as always, for your counsel. --Pat (talk) 03:19, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

No, Wilson belongs to Erie. I have a published list through 1885. The districts have moved about quite a bit over the years. Check out John Gloninger, who in 1813 represented Pennsylvania's 3rd congressional district, which includes Erie today but included Dauphin County on the other side of the state at the time. I'll take a look at the Vermont page. Thanks for pointing it out. --Pat (talk) 05:35, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
The Vermont page contains all of the state's members of both the US Congress and Senate, thus the representatives title. I don't believe it wouldn't work at the city level. I'm inclined to use members of Congress instead. You did some nice work on the WNYP page, btw. --Pat (talk) 12:07, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

DYK nom

Updated DYK query On 1 February 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad, which you recently nominated. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Edits on Erie

About the messages you sent me. The person who is reverting the editing is editing them to almost false information. Whoever it is continues to label the Royal Navy vessels as "Ships", instead of their proper designations of "sloops" and "corvette". Therefore, block the other guy not me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.28.237.200 (talkcontribs) 18:58, February 10 2008(UTC)

Prescott Metcalf

Actually, I dropped by Blasco Library the other day and photocopied a dozen pages from Carney's Highlights of Erie Politics. Written in 1960. It has a bio section, so I glommed the mayors' bios and a few others. --Pat (talk) 00:54, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

I picked up bios on Charles M Reed, Charlie R. Barber, Michael Liebel, Jr, James P. Rossiter, Arthur Gardner, and George J. Brabender, all former mayors, as well as Robert F. Devine, who ran for mayor, Milton W. Shreve, eight-time Member of Congress, as well as prominent locals John A. Zurn, Thomas W. Barber, and John J. Barber. Lots more in the book. The book was self-published and didn't have an ISBN that I noticed. Blasco has a couple of biographical histories of Erie which contain hundreds of local biographies. Such were common in the 1880s. --Pat (talk) 06:42, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:User Pennsylvania seal

A tag has been placed on Template:User Pennsylvania seal requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

US Route 20 in PA; PA Rte 8

In case you are ever inspired to do so, you could model a Pennsylvania version of U.S. Route 20 in New York. Note that the New York version's link appears on the US Rte 20 main article as a Seealso. The two advantages to having a PA article would be 1) it could be listed as an Erie WP article, and 2) it would include a comprehensive exit list.

Did you notice that the exit list on Pennsylvania Route 8 has been labeled as in need of fixing? The article was rated tonight and that comment was added. I studied the guidelines on exit lists for about twenty minutes and got a headache. And when I went to the article itself, I found that the format for the exit list is not standard at all but some sort of macro. I presume that the editor is concerned that the "Destinations" column title has been replaced with something like "List of exchanges". That can't be changed by a simple edit, apparently. The guidelines also say there are not to be any background colors in the chart. The concurrencies, which are endless on Rte 8, are marked in light blue. The whole thing is a bit beyond my grasp, I'm afraid. Thought I would share my frustration with you at 3 am.--Pat (talk) 08:00, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
