[edit] Speculation
The article contains a speculative reference. Isn't WP supposed to be free from such? 128.214.133.2 (talk) 09:11, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
The edits I made now highlight that the game is not currently in development and what has to be done before they even begin any development plans. If that's what you are referring to, it has been cleaned up. Also, which reference is speculative? I'm guessing if it is an article about the quarterly report by Interplay, it could be removed. [edit] Disputed Accuracy
I think most of this wiki is speculative. It's pretty much stating that Descent 4 is in development just because Interplay (a still bankrupt publisher) says it wants to remake games and a picture of shield orb shows up on the website. Just because Volition Inc has a diamond claw bot picture on their page doesn't mean they're making a new Descent. Plus, as many fans have pointed out, they would have to get permission from THQ since they have rights to the game too (since they bought out Volition and Outrage). Before this site says that Descent 4 is absolutely under development, it would be nice to have real confirmation. The references to these claims refer to speculative information by gaming websites that even claim that Interplay is still trying to gather a development team. This wiki is just sounding like a lot a wishful thinking rather than a factual site. Xe7al (talk) 21:02, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think you've made some valid points there. However, they are mostly out of debt, as stated in Fox Business, and it did say that there are plans to make sequels to Descent and other franchises. FOX Business is NOT a video gaming website, and it stated that it made plans to create this games and others. It also confirmed a Fallout MMO. I understand what you're saying, but this would be the ideal article for a Descent sequel. It's almost out of debt, which means it's highly likely to make sequels, and this article doesn't seem to be written in a way that suggests wishful thinking, otherwise there wouldn't be any articles on future games, such as the recently confirmed Doom 4, and other such titles. Also, Descent: FreeSpace — The Great War shared the Descent name, but had no connection to the series. Therefore, this article should remain, and also, Interplay Entertainment actually owns the sequel rights to the games, so it is allowed to look for other developers. I did a little searching around. A lot of the articles that you just cited are misleading. The authors of some of those articles worded it to sound that Descent (along with the other titles) were certainly being developed.
- "The Company is planning, if the Company can obtain financing, to develop sequels to some of the most successful games, including Earthworm Jim, Dark Alliance, Descent and MDK. The Company has reinitiated its in-house game development studio, and has hired game developers. Initial funding for these steps will mainly derive from the remaining proceeds from the sale of “Fallout” and license arrangements that the Company enters into." --Q-10 report found on Interplay's Website--
I'll do a little editing to point out that this move is not absolutely certain as it implies and that it is reliant on whether or not their plan with the Fallout MMO succeeds. Thanks for the response. Xe7al (talk) 11:10, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Media References
All of the stories from the media references section are referring to Interplay's Quarter report. I think it should be noted that those groups covered the announcement, but that the information from those articles be left off the page since a few of the articles stuffed a few words into Interplay's mouth. Instead, I'm going to place the paragraph outlining Interplay's direction from the quarter report. Feel free to check my formatting according to wikipedia's standards.
