Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Elonka 3
Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate, that landed on WP:100! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a great new year, --Elonka 05:32, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Gladiators season 4
Hi Darkspots,
Just to let you know that season 4 was the only Gladiators series not to have its own page on Wikipedia as yet and thought one should be created.
Thanks

- Hi, DJ Pomfret. I'm nominating all 8 articles about the seasons for deletion. None of these articles have any sources. Sorry about your work, but these seem like original research. Darkspots (talk) 00:18, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Hello again!
Hey Darkspots! Have you ever encountered this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Cheeser1 ? --Achim (talk) 03:35, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- No. I've taken a look at what's been going on. Not much to say. Seems like a whole lot of stew from one little oyster to me. Darkspots (talk) 12:54, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Jordan Barker
Jordan Barker might survive a speedy deletion if you work on it, but I can't see it surviving an afd, there's nothing at imdb to indicate that he's notable enough. If you want to go to the effort of trying to clean it up to survive speedy deletion, go ahead, but I'll be sending it to afd as soon as you do. Corvus cornixtalk 23:43, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Sure, go ahead. I didn't mean to make that sound as threatening as I did above, it's more like a prediction. :) Corvus cornixtalk 23:47, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
I wish I did, it would make my finances easier. :) Corvus cornixtalk 23:51, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Damn, you may have made him barely squeak through. If the Mastectomy movie hadn't been nominated for an Emmy, I don't think he'd pass. :) Corvus cornixtalk 00:31, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Rollback
Hello Darkspots, I've granted rollback rights to your account. The reason for this is that, after a review of some of your contributions, I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended use of reverting vandalism: I do not believe you will abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck. Acalamari 03:00, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you, Acalamari. I'll take a close look at the feature. I do a fair amount of vandalism reversion, so I'm sure it will come in handy. Darkspots (talk) 12:29, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Nothing444
I removed this malformed RfA from WP:RFA. There was no statement from the candidate accepting the nomination, and the editor did not transclude it himself. Generally, self-nominations should be transcluded onto the main page by the candidates themselves. See Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship/Archive 113#Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Juliancolton for a discussion about a similiar case. Please let me know if you have any questions about my actions in this. Darkspots (talk) 23:26, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- It seems fairly obvious to me that Nothing444 intended to go forward with this self-nomination (given the fact that he/she transcluded it on his/her talk page, which is where I saw it and voted from before realizing that it hadn't been transcluded at WP:RFA).
- I don't view a couple of formatting errors as justification for countering the user's intentions, but I also see little point in arguing about a nomination that obviously won't succeed. —David Levy 23:42, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello Darkspots
Thank you very much for your contacting me; I had been quite busy the last few days with some research I am doing. I appreciate your interest in my growth on wikipedia. I just have a few questions:
1) are you an administrator? I myself very much would like to become one and I was wondering if you could nominate me to be one.
2) do you have any advanced degrees in the study of autism?
3) How did you know i was autistic?
4) Have you ever mentored any other users before or currently? If so, how did things turn out?
I am interested in hearing your responses to these introductory questions.
Once again, thank you. JeanLatore (talk) 18:06, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- Hi JeanLatore, here are your answers:
- No, I'm not an administrator. You can check the user rights by going to Special:ListUsers, which is one of the pages available under "Special pages". If you type in the user's name, you can see their rights. If you check me, I have rollback, which is handy to have if you fight vandalism but doesn't mean a lot. The usual way this works is that when people have a few thousand contributions and want to become administrators, they seek out an admin coach. You're not there yet.
- Not at all, no formal classwork about autism at all. After a year and half on wikipedia, I know a few things about the website. I have an autistic relative, if that matters, so I've read a little about it.
- I had a hunch. You didn't seem interested in following up on the replies to your messages on the village pump. Social interaction stuff like that.
- No, I haven't. I've helped a lot of newbies out, but not in any formal way. I'm not into the scene at WP:ADOPTION. I think it does a ton of good on this site, don't get me wrong, but to me it's all about userboxes and I'm not into userboxes. I offered to help you because you're obviously bright as hell and just as obviously in need of some help.
- Okay, that's it. You should watchlist my user talk page. If you contact me here, I will reply here. If I contact you on your page, you can reply to me there, I've got it watchlisted. Let me know how this sounds. If you want to work with me, please respond to the messages I've left you. If not, totally cool and happy editing. Darkspots (talk) 00:23, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes I would appreciate the help. Just how old are you anyhow? JeanLatore (talk) 18:16, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- I thought you would ask that. Can I just say that I'm old enough? Seriously, I don't want to post a lot of personal details on this site. Darkspots (talk) 02:06, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Your accusation
For the record, I deny that I have insulted user:Hetar. I accused him of incivility of the sort that apparently many people take to be a violation of the no-personal-attacks policy. It seems conventional to complain to an uncivil user before complaining about him. That seems reasonable to me. And that is what I did. His behavior was uncivil and I said so to him. You mention that there have been reports of incivility on the administrators' notice board. Am I the only person who is forbidden to report incivility? Are my reports of incivility considered violations of the no-personal-attacks policy while others' reports of incivility are considered to be upholding the policy? If instead of saying "You are uncivil" I say "You are a boor", does that make an essential difference? I called him "hateful" and I meant it as a literal description: his abuse was not because of any particular complaints about me, but only because he hates me for no reason. He's been perfectly clear about that. Michael Hardy (talk) 18:00, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- Replied at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents: [4]. I'd prefer to keep the discussion in one place, although I'm not averse to discussing the matter here. Thanks! Darkspots (talk) 02:09, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
My Articles
OPh yes and I read your commments but i don't know what you wanted to exactly tell me about my "anal sex" article? Did you read it? What is your opinion JeanLatore (talk) 18:29, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, I can't read Anal Sex with Sluts, unfortunately, I'm not an administrator. I know that it was deleted as G3 vandalism, which is usually something pretty offensive, and the DRV comments seemed to indicate that it was unencylopedic and that it seemed hard to believe it was done in good faith. The reason I bring it up is that you've got it listed on your user page, saying that it's undergoing DRV. I'm calling your attention to this because the title is pretty attention-grabbing and it really stands out on your user page. Your list of articles created tells a story, right? Lot of law articles, deleted bio of a Chinese person, cigar manufacturer, all fine. This one doesn't fit. But you bolded the title. So, what does it mean to you? Darkspots (talk) 01:54, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
I assue you that it was not "vandalism." it was a research article i was doing that had some statistics and what not. And I don't use the term "slut" as some sort of slang or insult; I pretty much have a standard (positive) definition of that term, for obvious reasons.
JeanLatore (talk) 13:38, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm. I guess what I'm saying is that it seems like the consensus was against you on that. You understand I'm not making a statement one way or another about the article itself. I'm letting you know what it looks like to an editor who's looking at your user page. Judging consensus is an important thing for all editors, and especially for administrators. A lot of respected editors looked at this article and felt that deleting it was a good idea. The best thing, in my opinion, would be to remove the mention of the article from your user page. If you work on the article and develop a version that you think is encyclopedic, post it in your userspace and have an editor or two take a look at it. User:DGG offered to evaluate articles for you, for example. But in the meantime, it looks like you're fighting consensus with the bolded listing on your userpage. Darkspots (talk) 21:12, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
No thank you. What I am working on currently is revising that article and integrating my secondary sources into it seamlessly, as well as making sure I meet wikipedia's guidelines on "notability," NPOV, and MOS. JeanLatore (talk) 22:25, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
- Be that as it may, the article isn't undergoing deletion review. The DRV is over. Can you change your statement to reflect what's happening? I'm saying this because of how your userpage looks to other editors, not because I personally have a problem with you writing an article with that title. Darkspots (talk) 18:39, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Admin
I want it. can you train me to be admin plz? JeanLatore (talk) 04:10, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I can definitely point you in the right direction to move in. Honestly, JT, you've got a long way to go. RfA has really taken a negative turn lately--a lot of candidates are getting through, but a lot of people are getting their ass handed to them. Anyone who has a weakness, that's it.
- You're going to have to edit for a longish time to get the incivility of some of your initial edits behind you. Count on at least six months, okay? The best thing for you at this point is to dig in and learn different parts of the encyclopedia. A lot of people think they have to crank out the edits, so they install something like Twinkle and do a few thousand edits of recent changes patrol. And that's not all bad, but if that's all you have, you're not passing RfA. See (random example) Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/J.delanoy. The WP:RC thing is fairly essential, though. You need to show a number of edits at WP:AIV. And they better be correct! My advice: take it slow, do it manually at first. See WP:TUSER. Always err on the side of underwarning instead of overwarning.
- And look, if this isn't for you, don't force it at all. Don't do RC or anything else to the exclusion of article writing! Break up your time, do different things. Darkspots (talk) 06:43, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- A better link is Wikipedia:Recent changes patrol. Darkspots (talk) 06:45, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Man I am incredibly high right now...but I was tihnking since I do so much making quality articles I don't have to do all that other stuff man JeanLatore (talk) 02:52, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hmmm. JL, why don't you follow some RfAs? WP:RFA. Getting through RfA isn't easy at all. And then actually being an admin isn't exactly fun. They call it the mop, and it really is all about the chores of wikipedia. I don't know if I would want to be an admin, honestly. I mean, I'm going to see how this all goes. Darkspots (talk) 02:59, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Hey, JL, please don't ignore this. This, my friend, is the canary in the mine. Notice the use of the phrase "doesn't seem to have improved any since you started". When other users feel like you're making work for them, that can come back to bite you later. Darkspots (talk) 22:57, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
RE: Jamel Lewis
The promotion he worked for (XPW) is a small-time independent promotion, so winning titles there does not establish notability. I'm even beginning to believe the XPW Hardcore Championship doesn't even exist. It isn't listed at XPW#Championships and a Google Search only brings up Lewis' Wikipedia page. Moreover, he isn't listed at XPW World Tag Team Championship, another title that is claimed he won. A Google Search indicated that is probably fake, too. Other than that, the article only talks about his childhood and speculates about going to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in the future (violating WP:CRYSTAL. Nikki311 15:47, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your help with the AfD and moving the page. 'In over your head' or not, I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to do better. I would give you a Barnstar if I knew how for: 'Humility'. Consider that a Barnstar. Maybe I'm not allowed to give Barnstars, but nevertheless, consider this a smiley face! GetDownAdam (talk) 16:29, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- You are definitely allowed to give barnstars, and I'm grateful that you didn't in this case--I don't need a shiny thing for knowing how to ask for help. Thanks for the sentiment. Happy editing! Darkspots (talk) 16:38, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Deletion review for One Fine Day!
An editor has asked for a deletion review of One Fine Day!. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article, speedy-deleted it, or were otherwise interested in the article, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Ofd2008 (talk) 17:30, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Jane Lathrop Stanford Middle School
First, I don't have any objection to the early closing: because nobody said to delete it, there's no reason the nominator can't withdraw it. If you want to propose merger of all three of them, go for it and you'll have my support: nothing is demonstrated about these schools that makes them notable by themselves. Nyttend (talk) 23:11, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
RE: Speedy deletion of schools
Yeah, I that was a mistake I made. I would have reverted myself, but by the end of my huggle "rampage" (durring which I had gone through many pages almost without even looking at them) it was already reverted by you. So I thank you for it. I guess I should go slower next time through pages I check. Thanks for noticing.--Sunny910910 (talk|Contributions|Guest) 02:06, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
1,000 edits are not likely to succeed
NO, I dont agree to 1,000 edits are not likely to succeed. Why should a user have to have 1,000 edits when they are ready and willing and have the expertise to become a admin? Thats not right nor is it fair, thats like saying you cant become a member of .... because you make 100 dollars less than me a month. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dell970 (talk • contribs) 01:43, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Mentoring still
Are you still mentoring JeanLatore? Spurious FAC nominations are very time consuming for everyone; the first requirement at WP:FAC is read the criteria before nomination. Since there is no chance an uncited article will make a featured article, JeanLatore should be encouraged to first work an article through peer review and GA before approaching FAC. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:54, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes. I completely understand where you're coming from with this. This is not a straightforward adopter/adoptee relationship, as must be clear to you already. I've made myself available to him if he wants to discuss anything regarding Wikipedia. He will read this conversation and if he wants to discuss FACs with me I'd be happy to do so. Sorry I can't do more. Darkspots (talk) 01:02, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I understand. If it becomes a disruptive pattern, though ... SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:06, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

I removed the FAC nom and left a talk page note. I had a very similar mentoring experience, which took loads of my time, but has ended well. However, along the way, it took several blocks for the message to be received (see AnnieTigerChucky (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) and her block log). Annie is now a productive editor, although I still have to help out often, and it took months -- literally -- of handholding. I'm certain that she would not have understood the importance of following our policies if Sarah hadn't explained the reasoning for the blocks so well; I believe the escalating blocks drove the message home. On the other hand, I had another, unsuccessful experience (see User:SandyGeorgia/Glitter), and that user is now indef blocked after multiple FAC and FAR disruptions and sockpuppeting. Disrupting FAC takes a lot of valuable editor time, and won't go over well if it continues to the level that Glitter's did. If you want to give this mentorship the best shot at success, I suggest you contact Sarah, the blocking admin in ATC's case, and ask if she's willing to help out; if you review her blocking warnings to ATC, you'll see how very effective this approach was, and it did result in a productive editor. Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:01, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
JeanLatore
Hi. I was wondering how you manage to communicate with this user. I am trying to remain civil, but when a user continually adds OR, then gets mad at you for explaining your reasons for removing the information, then later takes the issue to ANI and then makes false claims about your behavior; it can become stressful. I notice you are currently acting as the users mentor, which means you need some level of communication. I want to remain civil and patient with the user, could you offer any advice to help me with this? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Rau's Speak Page 02:53, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- My advice is simple and (the first part) is hard to follow. Disengage. Never use any primary sources in an article with an edit war going on. Advocate a version of the article that gives the bare facts, with no description of the song that cannot be referenced to multiple secondary sources. Good luck, Darkspots (talk) 14:52, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
-
- Thanks, I'll try that. I appreciate the advice. Rau's Speak Page 17:53, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh hey
Oh hey man I saw the note you left me on my talk page. What's up? I've been away from the computer for a day, been hanging out w/ family for Mother's Day and what not although I'm headed back to my own house (Miami) and I'll be back there in 3 hours if you want to hit me up. I don't understand your lingo on your message though. What quarter? JeanLatore (talk) 21:00, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- Back in the day, you put a quarter in a pay phone to make a call. Sooner or later, your quarter ran out. To be blunt, I'm concerned that you are going to get indefinitely blocked, sooner rather than later. There's a rough calculus that happens, weighing contributions against disruption. I think that the warnings that you've been getting on your talkpage, maybe you're not seeing them as warnings. I'm hypersensitive to these things, maybe too sensitive for my own good. But look at the conversation I had with SandyGeorgia above.
- As an example, just now you removed the merge tag from an article you created. [5]. Doing that says to the community that you don't want to discuss issues and work together to edit articles.
- I'm on the road, doing a stupid job. So I may not be editing as much over the next few days. I'm not sure how it's going to go. Darkspots (talk) 03:14, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
PLZ I CANNOT BE BLOCKED, I LOVE WIKIPEDIA I WOULD NEHER HURT IT I DONT WANT TO BE BLOCKED PLZ HELP ME SOR T THIS OUT !JeanLatore (talk) 03:20, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- Shit, that came across to you as a threat. I'm not threatening you. I'm concerned. That's all. Darkspots (talk) 03:22, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- Look, again as an example, this box fan thing. the user, delicious carbuncle, has a point. box fans are a type of mechanical fan. That kind of thing comes up, you have to discuss it, not go with your first reaction. take it to the talk page. Darkspots (talk) 03:26, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey man that's ok I was just a little paranoid last night and all. I'm doing much beter now. I see what you mean about the discussion stuff, I will try and harder to do it. I just took a couple quaaludes myself right now. Did you see today's featured article on "Battlefield Earth?" Good shit, man. JeanLatore (talk) 18:41, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

500 Edits!
This is my 500th Edit, man! Soon to be admin, no? JeanLatore (talk) 01:43, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- JL, how's it going? Got back into town last night. Hey, please don't go and stick any sensitive reproductive organs into the meat grinder, okay? The reality is that you are still getting articles speedy-deleted, as of two days ago. This would not look good to the tank of piranhas over at RfA. What it means is that you are not getting the inclusion criteria of Wikipedia, which is to say policy. And knowing policy is the sine qua non of being an admin. My advice: check out Special:Newpages. See what's getting deleted. Maybe improve some new articles (adding the correct stub tag is always a start). Learn WP:CSD by watching the sausage get made for a while. Let me know how that goes, if you want to give it a try or need some pointers. Darkspots (talk) 23:33, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Another warning
JL, I'm going to repeat the warning I made earlier. While I am not in any way the guy who's going to kick you off Wikipedia, I think that you're headed towards this resolution. Please reconsider all the drama: the edit-warring on handlebars, the RfC, removing {{resolved}} templates are just the things that have gotten my attention lately. Really, I think you enjoy creating articles and some of the articles you have created have gotten you kudos from other editors. Please be happy with this, and reduce the conflicts. If another editor reverts you, really consider letting it go, whatever it is--at the very least, don't revert that editor until a day or so has gone by and you've had a chance to think about it. No one article or discussion is worth getting indef blocked about. Thanks for thinking about this. Darkspots (talk) 18:25, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hey what u talkin about baby? I'm just defending my rights against another editor I had a dispute with... I was following the recommended dispute res. procedures and all, its not like I was trying to pick a fight on the streetz, man! In any case, just chillax and enjoy yourself. Just try to relax and let the people do their thing, man, let mother nature take its course. Peace out,
JeanLatore (talk) 23:01, 24 May 2008 (UTC) (and plz. dont call me "JL")
that is a good ideah, man! So what are "nowiki" tags? JeanLatore (talk) 23:11, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I tried that. But User:The Rogue Penguin got all up in my face about it. Could you please help me keep this troll off my back? He's been blocked many times before. JeanLatore (talk) 01:28, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
what do you mean man help a brutha out. JeanLatore (talk) 02:12, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
What do you mean i 'fired your ass' sir? JeanLatore (talk) 03:01, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Please don't call me "sir", I work for a living. You told me to "chillax". In italics. Then you told me to relax. And you went on to mention that I need to let mother nature work its course. All in one post. That, in a nutshell, is a dismissal. I looked around at my ass and the motherfucker was fired. And it's all good, JeanLatore. You like the course that you are on. All I think that I can do for you is try to talk you out of it. Frustrating for both of us. Better to end this now--but you did that already. Be good, I'm calling it a night. Darkspots (talk) 03:10, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Dude !
I now have 600 edit. When I am 1000 editz then i can be admin, i think. Please don't leave me i like your help and shit. JeanLatore (talk) 16:30, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm glad you wrote today, but I have serious questions about whether or not I can help you. In the previous section, I said you were headed on a course that ended badly--and you responded by telling me to let nature take its course. I say that RfCs are unnecessary drama, and you say it's the next logical course in dispute resolution. To me, it looks like you are courting danger.
- The reality here is that tools like posting on ANI, RfCs, Arbcom, all are sharp-edged knives that can cut you just as easily as the editors that you have disputes with.
- I can help you, but you will have to take what I say seriously. This is, at the end of the day, a project, not a debating society. You need to understand that editors that are seen as disruptive--and that's an adjective that is getting thrown your way a lot recently, buddy--are weighed on a scale. Their utility in terms of edits versus the amount of work they cause for other editors and the amount of needless drama they cause. That's all there is to it, and the community makes the call. Let me know if you seriously want to change the things that the community has a problem with about you, and I'll help you with them. Otherwise, I'm going to chill out and go put stub tags on new pages or something. Darkspots (talk) 17:01, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey buddy. How are you? To tell you the truth when i was writing that "mother nature" stuff I was high as hell... Ok but I will try to just work on some articles for a while and chillax on the "community" stuff ok? JeanLatore (talk) 17:04, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- No, you've gotta make a decision. Are you going to work with me and discuss changes I think you need to make--and seriously listen to what I have to say--or not? I'm not going to dick around here. I don't think there's time. Darkspots (talk) 17:11, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

She created the same nonsense as an article in mainspace and on her talk page. The username is that of the fantasy character she's spamming us about: "the imaginary alternative personality to Natalie. Seductive, beautiful, confident..." She has no other edits. Spamusername seemed the most appropriate block for somebody trying to use us like a bogus RPG played across LiveJournal. What would you have done? --Orange Mike | Talk 02:31, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think the big difference here is that the username is the same as the spammed fantasy character; that pushes it over the top into vanispamcruftisement, for me. If she's actually interested in contributing to Wikipedia, not in playing Mary Sue Gothfemme, she can always apply for an unblock. --Orange Mike | Talk 02:41, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
