Damansara Utama

Damansara Utama is a suburb of Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. It is composed of two parts, namely SS20 and SS21, which are separated by the Damansara-Puchong Expressway, a heavily-used 6 lane highway. It has a population of about 142,000 people.

SS21, especially the Uptown offices project, is the commercial hub of Damansara Utama, which houses the Malaysian offices of many multinational companies such as Federal Express, Novell, Logica, L'Oreal, Nike, Agilent, Symantec, Deloitte and Unisys.
There are many shops within the Uptown area. Among them are restaurants, opticians, fashion houses and miscellaneous goods.
There are also a few banks including foreign banks that have set up their branches within the area.

Although Damansara Utama does not have any shopping malls, it is in proximity to several shopping complexes in Bandar Utama, where most of the former's residents do their shopping. These shopping malls include the 1 Utama shopping complex, The Curve and the Ikano Power Centre. Damansara Utama used to have more than 20 pubs in its heyday. Today only a few are left due to high drink prices and stiff competition from new suburbs like Damansara Perdana.

Primary and secondary education is provided by the Sekolah Kebangsaan Damansara Utama or Damansara Utama Primary school/ SMK Damansara Utama / Damansara Utama Secondary School, respectively. There are no tertiary institutions in the area, although the misleadingly named KDU College (previously known as Kolej Damansara Utama) is not too far off in Damansara Jaya. The Damansara Specialist Hospital is located in the adjacent suburb of Damansara Kim along Jalan SS 20/10. The hospital is managed by Kumpulan Perubatan (Johor) Sdn Bhd. The hospital provides all the services, facilities and amenities of a modern hospital.
There are various clinics and pharmacies within Damansara Utama closer to Uptown square. Major pharmacy chain Watsons has a pharmacy within Uptown.

The religious needs of locals who adhere to the Christian faith is served by the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC). There is also a mosque in SS21, Masjid Al Mujaheddin, where Muslims perform their daily prayers. Located opposite the mosque is the Damansara Utama Lutheran Church.

Public transport within Damansara Utama are by public buses and taxis. Rapid KL bus route numbers are as follows:-

The street known as Jalan SS20/10 actually spans both Damansara Utama and Damansara Kim; Jalan SS20/21 separates Damansara Utama from Damansara Kim and bisects Jalan SS20/10. Jalan SS20/10 in Damansara Utama is a street with residential units only while Jalan SS20/10 in Damansara Kim boasts both residential and commercial units. The units along Jalan SS20/21 in Damansara Utama are odd-numbered while the units in Damansara Kim are even-numbered.
