[edit] History

Cypress Woods, announced in 2005 as Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District High School #8, is part of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. The school opened on August 16, 2006 due to rapid growth of CFISD[3] . The 504,626 square foot campus was built at a cost of 50.9 million United States dollars[4] [5] by Pepper-Lawson Incorporated on a 182-acre site. The campus was designed by PBK.

Future students voted for the school mascot[6] . The Wildcat was chosen as CWHS's mascot. The board of trustees approved crimson and gold as the school colors[7] .

CWHS relieved Cy-Fair High School and Cypress Falls High School.

CWHS opened to grades 9 and 10, phased in grade 11, and will phase in grade 12. The first graduating class will be during the 2008-2009 school year. About 140 staff members (including 100 teachers) served about 2,100 students when Cypress Woods opened.

[edit] Athletics

Cypress Woods competes in the 17-5A athletic district. It is regarded as "the new kid on the block" of this district due to the newness of its program and the lack of upperclassmen. Yet they still compete well against the other schools in the district.
