[edit] History
The Copa Colombia was played in Colombia in five ocassions, four of them between 1950-51, 1951-52, 1952-53, and 1962-63 ( the first three were in the El Dorado of Colombian football) like an eliminatory tournament similar to Copa del Rey in Spain (with home & away games). Caused to the economy of the teams and the Colombian League back then, the teams could afford large rosters for both tournaments and international games.
It is to be notable that after the 1962-63 edition, the Copa Colombia trophy was given definetively to Millonarios for winning consecutive times the editions of Fútbol Profesional Colombiano of 1951, 1952, and 1953 and the Copa Colombia of 1952-52 and then other editions of Fútbol Profesional Colombiano of 1961, 1962, and 1963 and again the Copa Colombia of 1962-63.
After 26 year, until 1989 there was a new edition for Copa Colombia, as part of the Fútbol Profesional Colombiano. The 1989 tournament was played in halfway between the first and second round of the tournament and it was counted agaisnt the clasification standings, which qulifies the semifinalist. Santa Fe won the competition, being the champion of the latest Copa Colombia edition.
