[edit] History
[edit] Global War on Terror
In 2005 CLB-2 was deployed to Iraq, conducting a number of combat operations including Operations Matador, New Market and Sword. CLB-2 was primarily stationed in Al Anbar province. It carried out convoys to units from its logistical hub on the former Iraqi airbase at Al Asad. Primarily the supplies carried are food, water, ammunition and fuel. During its operations, the battalion encountered over 200 enemy incidents, the vast majority of which consisted of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and mines. The Intelligence Section used a system of digital photography and GPS systems to track the patterns of incidents, to help identify, track and avoid dangerous routes.[1]
The unit also conducted convoys providing exhange, postal and disbursing services, bringing relief and comfort to soldiers in remote areas. These convoys were called Warfighter Express Service Teams, or WES Teams.[2]
In May 2005, CLB-2 provided logistical, medical and mortuary support to Regimental Combat Team 2 (RCT-2), 2d Marine Division, clearing cities along the Euphrates River near the Syrian border during Operation Matador. It also provided security and clearing missions[3]. In November 2005, CLB-2 provided support for 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines out of Camp Gannon during Operation Steel Curtain. CLB-2 returned home in February 2006.
On November 28, 2006, the Marine Corps announced that the 2nd CLB would make its third deployment to Iraq in early 2007. This would be CLB-2's first deployment since the reorganization.[4] CLB-2 deployed in February 2007 through September 2007 to the Al Anbar Province relieving CLB-1 on its arrival and being relieved by CLB-4 upon its departure.
