[edit] Hi there
Hi, good to hear from you again. Things are fine, with the ProteinBoxBot being our focus at the moment! One thing I had trouble with was updating the MCB article worklist, I could get the MathBot to run but what do you do after that? Tim Vickers (talk) 17:22, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] have we met?
Hi there, saw your name pop up on my watchlist. Don't think we've actually overlapped very much in terms of our periods of activity, but your fingerprints are everywhere... ;) Anyway, just thought I'd come over, tip the hat, and say hi... Cheers, AndrewGNF (talk) 19:29, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RE:Packers Project
Thanks, and thank you! The layout is a great design! The colors I picked were the official colors of the Green Bay Packers, so I figured it would only be fitting if I used those colors for the Packers Project. But again, thanks for the layout, it made the Project look so good! « Gonzo fan2007 talk ♦ contribs 23:46, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- Supposedly the official colors are #FFCC00 (Green), #213D30 (Gold) but I would be open to other sources that say otherwise, and yeah it was a lot of work just for me to make it work for WP:GNB, so I can only imagine what it was like to do it by scratch! « Gonzo fan2007 talk ♦ contribs 23:59, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- I think I'll stick with the color we have now, all the other Packers templates use these colors, so for consistency's sake Ill stick with those. And come on, you know never to cite Wikipedia as a source ;-) « Gonzo fan2007 talk ♦ contribs 00:13, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

I have to admit, I also loled a bit that there's actually a "genesis vandal." Guess that's as far as he got and totally missed the whole "do unto others" part or whatever. :P --slakr\ talk / 16:56, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome and the work you did on the article! I'm working on it to try and find more sources and everything - I'm hoping that I can find enough to ensure it meets notability requirements... Either way, thanks again for the help! BWH76 (talk) 10:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject Human Genetic History draft and vote
I created a draft version of WikiProject Human Genetic History; feel free to go to it and flesh it out. Also, given that there has been some comments about starting a task force inside of an existing WikiProject vs. a full-blown project, I've started an informal poll on the WikiProject proposal page. – Swid (talk · edits) 00:30, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
He's looking good. Is there a list of what features will be included? I can't tell all that much from the screenshots. Tim Vickers (talk) 19:47, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
This is a brilliant idea! I have a project right now with estimated duration to completion of two years, spanning several hundred existing and several hundred planned articles, and already including a team of editors. If I can help in any way please tell me as I'm also dong a PM certification now. Cheers --mrg3105 (comms) ♠♥♦♣ 00:46, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] No idea what to do.
Okay, I'm really not sure how to go about this. I was trying to read about something, but had trouble and found out the article had been made into a redirect. But the redirects are pretty bad. It's just a lot of dead ends with no information. I'm not sure how to proceed here, so I got a name off the admin list and am asking for help.
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Inevitable_%28Dungeons_%26_Dragons%29&redirect=no
This is the article, and anything it redirects to has no information, I'm not sure if I should try to restore the article, or merge it into some other section or what. Any help would be appreciated. Jack Cain (talk) 07:54, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanx for the Barnstar
I'm honored. I logged in today for the first time since last year and was surprised to see that. I had stopped bothering trying to improve Cold War/espionage articles because one particular user with a political ax to grind was arbitrarily deleting or reverting my edits. When I pointed out to him that his behavior was a violation of WP policy, he thumbed his nose at me. When I sought help from Admins, I found surprising indifference. So I dropped out of WP. It's just too frustrating to see hours of work butchered in a few seconds by an ignoramus or partisan hack, with no consequent enforcement of rules.
I don't mind my contributions being edited, but I put a lot of research into them, so I would appreciate it if the edits reflected some knowledge, or desire to improve the articles, or something other than a desire to "disappear" inconvenient facts down the memory hole -- or at least did not constitute blatant policy violations. (The user in question appears to have read Orwell's 1984, and to have embraced O'Brien as his role model.) The last straw was when he agreed not to revert my edits in a particular dispute until we received third-party input, then broke his word. His editorial technique is that employed by the editors of The Great Soviet Encyclopedia in their infamous edit of the article on Lavrentii Beria.
I have thousands of historically priceless primary source documents on Cold War espionage at the Center for Security Research, all of which I am willing to donate to the commons. Their inclusion as source material could vastly improve WP's articles in this area. I would be happy to return to WP if I could find just one Admin willing to investigate charges of repeated and gross policy violations. Mark LaRochelle (talk) 21:22, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] PBB directory
Not sure if you're aware of it or if it'd be useful, but a list of pages that have the PBB templates is maintained here. Mostly up to date, though it's not uncommon for the targets to be redirects (when someone moves a page from the gene symbol to the gene description, for example). Thought this might be of interest if, for example, you wanted to do some large-scale additions of the MCB template using Igor. Cheers, AndrewGNF (talk) 04:43, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Igor...what do I do?
I'm guessing I'm about to look like a fool, but...what do I do with the files I've just downloaded? I'm on a Mac and I have no clue which file I'm supposed to execute or which application I need to have. Many thanks, Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 05:06, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- Can't say I see a .jar file - downloaded a .zip which the computer automatically opened for me. I've got an Igor-v0.2.0-src folder with three files (blacklist, changelog, and license) and two subfolders (resources and src). Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 05:21, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- (Sorry - was in the middle of an FAC re-review.) Okay, that helped a bit - now I've got the .jar file, but when I double-click it, I get the message Jar Launcher: The jar file "Igor-v0.2.0.jar" couldn't be launched. Check the Console for possible error messages." Strange. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 05:45, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- I left everything as is - was I supposed to move the file? The console message is quite concise: ===== Log file does not exist =====. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 05:50, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- I have no idea where to find that information. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 05:51, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- One of my folders has J2SE 5.0 on it, and I also have settings files for Java 1.3.1 and Java 1.4.2. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 05:53, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for resolving that! Unfortunately, I don't have OS 10.5, though, so I guess here's where the story ends (for now...) Again, thanks for your persistence and patience! :) Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 05:58, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- 10.4 at the moment. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 06:05, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, elect a board of directors, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes).
We'll also review our recent Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, and make preparations for our exciting successor Wiki Week bonanza, being planned with Columbia University students for September or October.
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.
You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.
Also, check out our regional US Wikimedia chapters blog Wiki Northeast (and we're open to guest posts).
