Clevedon Community School, or just Clevedon School, located in North Somerset, England, is a large secondary school of approximately 1,200 pupils in years 7 to 11 (Lower School) and 12 to 13 (Upper School or sixth form).

As of 2006 the headmaster is John Wells, and the position of deputy head is currently occupied by Mr. Bowkett.

The school boasts an extensive P.E. department with a history of producing quality sports players, up to and including international level.[citation needed] The school recently regained its Language College status.

Notable former students include current England rugby players Joe Williams, Jack Steadman and Nathaniel Catt, current Wales and Ospreys rugby player, Huw Bennett, Sid Vicious, James Thie who has represented both Britain and Wales in 1500 metre running events, including the Men's 1500 metres at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. MC Mikee Freedom who had a number one hit called "I Wanna Give You Devotion" in 1991 with Nomad (band) A further directory of former students can be found on FaceBook under the title - swiss valley in the eighties.

The house system which came into effect in September 2006 consists of Conygar, Marine, Valley and Walton. Formerly the house system also divided the pupils and teachers into four houses which were named after famous Clevedon residents and visitors: Arthur Hallam (red), William Makepeace Thackeray (green), Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson (blue) & Samuel Taylor Coleridge (yellow).

Currently headed by Dr P Murphy with his junior assistant Mr N Foster.

[edit] The Student Ambassadors

There are currently two groups of Student Ambassadors. There are approximately 45 Year 11 Student Ambassadors and 28 Senior Student Ambassadors, from Upper School.

The Ambassadors assist with the everyday running of the school, front of house assistance at events such as 'Meet the Headteacher' and they undertake specialised projects.

Compared to other schools in North Somerset, both value-added and GCSE results are average. However, recent A/AS level results come up favourably when compared to schools in the same LEA.[1]
