[edit] Indian Naval Air Arm image placement
Hi Chanakya
I've reverted your image placement because the general layout looks a lot better this way. At the end of the day, nobody will be looking at the source code to see what section the chopper pictures show up in. Take a look. If you still think the chopper pics should show up in the chopper section, then substantial reformatting will be required on other sections. In addition, we might need to take out one or two chopper shots.
I'll check on Flikr in a day or two as you suggest. Marathi_Mulgaa (talk) 22:50, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Checked Flickr - As far as I can see, there is nothing in there that allows free use of images. However, I've left messages for the photographers to upload their images on Wikimedia Commons.
- Agree with you on the use of the Hawk image. Will search for an image of a non-marked plane.
- I disagree on the placement of images. Maybe you're using a lower resolution screen. On my 1920x1280 screen, this is how things on this page are showing up (If you don't see the following, send me an e-mail and I'll reply with screen shots). I see that the below is not the case in a 800x600 screen resolution:
- Now there's a whole lot of open space next to the content box (where the Harrier a chopper image was).
- The SeaKing and Chetak images are spilling over into the Naval Inventory table area
- The Vikrant Class aircraft carrier image is half in the "Aircraft Under Development" section
- The Tejas is half in the "Future Aircraft" section.
- Looks less than perfect, but I think these are minor issues in the grand scheme of things and I can live with them.
- Let's keep moving in the direction of adding more content. Would appreciate your help with adding a section to the "History" segment on the military action seen by the Naval Air Arm (if any) in the Indo-Pak wars, the China war and Kargil. Thanks! Marathi_Mulgaa (talk) 18:07, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

- The page looks so much better now. Only suggestion is to replace the future Vikrant picture with that of the Gorshkov because it's a more impressive shot. The future Vikrant pic can go to the Gallery then, what say? Marathi_Mulgaa (talk) 11:00, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

- Hi! I'm afraid I don't completely understand your point of view here. The Gorshkov will be added to the Navy before the Vikrant. In addition, the Vikrant image is inferior in quality as well as substance to the Gorshkov image. That's why I'd prefer the Gorshkov image in the main article. - Come on, Chanakya - That's a weak argument.
- The Gorshkov already exists. If other indigenous Indian projects are any indicator, the Vikrant is a long way in coming.
- This is a wikipedia article, not a patriotic essay on the technological capabilities of Indians. It cannot sacrifice quality of the article to make a nationalistic point. The Gorshkov shot clearly is a better choice to make this a more interesting article.
- Once the Gorshkov becomes the Vikramaditya, it doesn't matter who built her - She will be a ship of the Indian Navy and her deck will be Indian soil. Was the Vikrant any less of an asset to India in 1971 because she was British-built?

- You misunderstand me - That wasn't my point at all! The choice of picture (according to me) should solely be associated with the quality of the image and the value it adds to the essay. We're trying to speak about the ships coming to the Navy, and we want readers to know as much as possible about those ships. If we had a better graphic of the IAC, I'd be happy to leave it in. We don't and the current graphic is small and devoid of any details of the ship. Look at the Gorshkov image - It is a higher res image that more graphically illustrates what the vessal has to offer. That's why I want it in the main article in place of the IAC.
- However, if you feel so strongly about the need for the IAC image to be there, can you please search for and post a more higher resolution and detailed graphic in wikimedia commons that we can refer to? Marathi_Mulgaa (talk) 08:46, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- PS: I spend a lot of time on this article because I love the Indian Armed forces as much as you do, so there is no lack of patriotism on my side. But that is no criteria to select content on Wikipedia. The only criterion should be "Does this addition make the article a more educational one."
