Linux Caixa Mágica (CM) (English: Magic Box) is a Portuguese Linux distribution developed and maintained by Caixa Mágica Software.
This project was created in 2000, by Paulo Trezentos and Daniel Neves at ADETTI, a Portuguese research centre.
In 2004 there was a need to restructure the project because of the growth of the team and new challenges faced, so a spin-off of ADETTI was created, designated by "Caixa Mágica Software". [1]
It's one of the most widely used Linux distributions in Portugal.[citation needed] It uses the RPM Package Manager. There are two flavors: Desktop and Server. The current version is 12 and is based on Mandriva Linux.
