Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to Linux. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.

[edit] Title
WikiProject Linux
[edit] Scope
WikiProject Linux is an attempt at creating a community of Linux wikipedians to maintain and write for Linux articles on Wikipedia. The aim of this project is to make sure that all Linux articles are kept upto date, cited, clean, factually accurate and NPOV. For our purposes, "Linux" includes Linux distros, GNU coreutils, and of course the Linux Kernel. Applications that run on linux may also fall within the scope.
Related projects are WikiProject Free Software and WikiProject Computing.

- spazure (contribs) (review) 09:28, 5 September 2007 (UTC) I only know SuSE not because I'm a flavor snob, but because the fs layout of other flavors confuses me, so I stick with what I learned on. Luckily, a lot of people don't understand SuSE, so sometimes I'm a useful geek to contact. spazure (contribs) (review) 09:28, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Toussaint 20:21, 18 September 2007 (UTC) I contribute to alot of the Linux articles both here and at TheLinuxVault. For the record, I've tried ubuntu (blergh!), Dreamlinux (nice), GoboLinux (nice), Symphony OS (nice), Gentoo Linux (couldn't get to install), VidaLinux (nothing spectacular), PCLinuxOS (ndiswrapper issue for the laptop), OpenSUSE (no opinion), and even Darwin.
- smcro 20:58, 18 September 2007 (UTC) Turned my old computer into something useful with Xubuntu. User for close to 2 months. Have programming experience in HTML+CSS (most experienced), Python (2nd most), and C++. Also, (unfortunately) experienced in Windows/DOS, and Visual Basic.
- Involinstance 22:20, 12 October 2007 (UTC) I love Kubuntu, and browsing the internet, play games, and develop programs and web pages. I believe I could help extend the Linux articles.

[edit] Mini collaboration
For now, we need to collaborate on getting the WikiProject organized and get a healthy set of articles/lists marked up with the Wikiproject template. In the future I plan to use this space to advertise a specific article that we want to get to good article status.
To vote for or nominate the next Mini Collaboration, go to this page: Wikipedia:WikiProject Linux/Mini Collaboration Nominations.
[edit] Templates
[edit] Stub template
For Linux stub articles use the standard {{linux-stub}} or one of its sub-stub categories.
[edit] Article Talk page template
On the talk pages of the articles that we are focusing on, please put in this template: {{WPLinux}}. It should appear like this:
Please don't add this to articles we have not yet had an effect on. It frustrates some of the editors that have worked hard on the article in the first place.
[edit] Userbox
For a userbox, use this: {{User WPLinux}}.
