César Sampaio, full name Carlos Campos César Sampaio, (born March 31, 1968 in São Paulo) is a former Brazilian football (soccer) player. He played centre midfield in a defensive role for the Brazil national football team and during his extensive club career.

César Sampaio played for 4 different Brazilian clubs. His first Brazilian club was Santos Futebol Clube then Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras; he also played for Corinthians Paulista and São Paulo Futebol Clube in the Brazil National League. Abroad, he played for 3 clubs in Japan - Yokohama Flugels, Kashiwa Reysol and Sanfrecce Hiroshima. Sampaio had also a spell in Spain, playing ten games in 2000-01 with Deportivo de la Coruña.

César Sampaio has recently said that he wants to become a manager now he as retired and he is starting his coaching badges.

He received the Bola de Ouro (Brazilian Golden Ball award) in 1990 and 1993.

He won 40 caps for Brazil. In the World Cup 1998 he scored the first goal of the tournament against Scotland with a header, and got two more against Chile in the second round. He played in every game as Brazil reached the final, where they lost 3-0 to France.
