The single was released on November 15, 1993 only in Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Japan. During the Australian leg of her The Girlie Show Tour, the single was released. Madonna also performed "Bye Bye Baby" live at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 1993.
The photograph on the sleeve of "Bye Bye Baby" was shot by American fashion photographer Herb Ritts.
