Lawrence ("Bruce") Hayes (b. March 8, 1963) was an American freestyle swimmer of the 1980s who won three gold medals at the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas, Venezuela. A year later he was a member of the American Relay Team, that won the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in LA, California. He is a native of San Antonio, Texas.
Haynes joined Team New York Aquatics in 1990, and became the first Olympic gold medalist to compete at the Gay Games. Hayes competed at the 1990 Gay Games III in Vancouver and the 1994 Gay Games IV in New York. In 1994, he was included in Out magazine's list of 100 most influential gays and lesbians in America. Haynes attended the Gay Games' 25th anniversary celebration in San Francisco in October 2007 and presented the Federation's inaugural Media Award.
