Bufort Olgethorpe "Bo" Buchanan[1] is a fictional character on the ABC soap opera, One Life to Live. The role was originated in 1979 by Robert S. Woods.

Vietnam War-veteran Bo (Woods himself being a veteran of the war) arrived in the fictional city of Llanview in 1979, following his brother Clint from their native Texas. Clint had secured a position at Llanview's flagship newspaper, The Banner, replacing Victoria Lord Riley's then-ailing husband, Joe Riley.

Somewhat unlucky in love, over the years Bo has suffered many breakups, as well as the deaths of two wives (Didi O'Neill in 1988 and Sarah Gordon in 1992) and a girlfriend (Gabrielle Medina in 2004). He has also pursued many occupations, including a music record executive and a movie and television producer. Bo produced Llanview's own soap opera, Fraternity Row, on which it is said in 2008 that he had given rapper Snoop Dogg his break in show business, cementing a lifelong friendship between them.[2] In the early 1990s, Bo became a police officer and met Nora Gannon, who was the attorney for Todd Manning during the infamous and Daytime Emmy Award-winning Marty Saybrooke rape trial. Bo and Nora were engaged and married, becoming one of One Life to Live's most successful pairings, as they became one of the leading supercouples in ABC Daytime.

Bo was devastated in 1998 when his son Drew, a police officer, was killed in the line of duty. Nora hoped to conceive a child to give her husband a reason to live; out of desperation she turned to former flame Sam Rappaport. The pregnancy pulled Bo back onto his feet, but he and Nora later divorced when it was revealed that Nora's son Matthew had been fathered by Sam. It wasn't until Sam's death in 2003 that the truth came out: Matthew was, in fact, Bo's son and that Sam had been aware of this.

Buchanan currently serves as police commissioner for the Llanview Police Department. On May 1, 2006, Bo broke up with his girlfriend, Dr. Paige Miller, but they reconciled. In July 2007 Paige took a job in the Middle East with the humanitarian aid group Doctors Without Borders and left town. He was fired as police commissioner for the Llanview Police Department on February 15, 2008.
