It looks like quite a good idea. Maybbe you would want to inform people on other projects such as WP:LT, WP:RAIL, WP:TIS and any other projects that might be applicable, and direct them to the proposal. I will help, but I can't create an assessment template for the project until the project has an official page. Once the project does, tell me and I'll begin to work on it. Your userbox has been created :). You might consider choosing a different image since I can barely make out what the picture is. And yes, it is very easy to change the colors. If you want a different color, a different shade or blue, et cetera, just let me know. Svg format images work great for userboxes. If you're ready for me to start on the talk page banner or the portal let me know. You might want to browse around some featured portals to see what kind of design you would like, I will be doing that as well. Here's a convenient link to the userbox. I will start work on the project banner template today, but it's going to take me a little while to get the entire assessment system set up. The portal is going to have to wait until you have a clear idea of which articles and categories are under your scope, which ones have high quality or importance, etc. I'll help you with your user page once the project gets going. But are you sure you want the border darker? I think it would look darker just to increase the thickness of the border. I didn't realize that someone had already added a parameter to {{TrainsWikiProject}} for this project. There is nothing wrong with using one banner instead of two and I wouldn't have created the banner had I known this. I'm not going to set up the assessment system quite yet, since there seem to be some issues that need resolving. Also, please remove the fake wikibreak notice. You may be annoyed by the other editors, but I can clearly see that they have the best intentions of the project in mind. Lying doesn't help anyone, and it makes you appear untrustworthy. Where WP does not allow things because it is an encyclopaedia, at Train Spotting World we include trams and tramways, and allow much less rigorously policed articles, and inckude opinion, spotting reports, etc. If this is a useful extra resource for your Trams WikiProject we'll be very happy to see you and your members there. Thankyou for this. I will probably put some information on there, however i do have my own collection of sites, the Transport Centre, which so far includes trams, trains, buses and London Transport. I'm happy to have a go, but my skills are those of the "copy and have a crack at it" variety, too. For a proper, professional template you need a good bloke who can do it easily rather than a have a go hero. The first time I wanted to create a template I asked for help. I agree. We all run into wikipolitics at some point. Would that it were not so, but it is. We just need to realise that not everyone shares our views, and to allow that other people may sometimes be right and we might be wrong, or, and this is more of a challenge, that we may be right, but their opinion carries the day.

I think we may have started off on the wrong foot, so to speak...

I hope that my 'advice' was not the reason for your departure from WP, although I suspect it may have been a contributory factor. It is nigh on impossible to convey emotion accurately through a text-only page, so you can't tell that I am utterly not-angry at present, for example!

If any of my comments have been personally hurtful to you, then I apologise. They were made with the intention of helping you and the project, and if negative, then I believe justifiably so. (For example, the business about the stub template: I went through this earlier this year with the new UK Waterways project, so I knew exactly what I was talking about, and what I expected has indeed happened. I have since left comments in support of the stub template on the appropriate discussion pages.)

You mentioned me 'stalking' you. Obviously that is not true. I have the various project pages on my watchlist and so can follow each discussion. I checked your contributions page (which is open to anyone to view) to try to gauge what level of experience you had with WP, so I knew where you were coming from. For example, I would have expected you to know much more about expected procedures if you had been editing here for years rather than months. However, I have seen that you have been contributing for less time and to a narrower range of articles than I, and hence I can tailor my level of 'advice' to suit.

Finally, a friendly word of advice. You are obviously very passionate about the subject, and this comes across in your talk page messages. However, sometimes this passion may lead you to writing things which are, perhaps, less friendly towards others than you intend. I don't really know what to suggest, except perhaps waiting a while to reflect before responding (I mulled-over what I wanted to write here for 2-3 hours!). I'm no expert, but I have a gut-feeling that this might reduce the level of apparent conflict/negativity that you are experiencing with the project.

It's good you've decided to return: a project needs at least one really committed individual to drive it forward. Hopefully you'll soon find the other committed individuals who can assist with the collaboration that you need.

Maybe I did over-react a bit to what you said: It is simply that I am passionate about trams, and get a bit over-protective when people do or say things I don't like.
Yes, you did contribute a little bit, but it was many people all together. I do in fact think that your suggestion about the stubs is a very good one, but I am still going to list suitable stub types.
I also hope that I have not put you off helping WP:UK Trams, and that you continue to help the project. Can you help with anything on the to-do list, for example?

So far, there is a very skeleton portal, which I wish to pad out a bit, and also create templates to say former selected article/picture etc. I also wish to incorporate route diagrams into info boxes, but i dn't no how to make info boxes, or put route diagrams in them, but I can make route diagrams. What's worked for me is a "try it and see" approach, by taking something that looks similar to what you want to end up with, then changing it to make it look the way you want. For example, I've created Template:Ezio for my favourite band (plug), but used another band's template box as a starting point.
Also, make full use of your sandbox - User:Gilesbennett/Sandbox as an example - to try things out and make sure they're right before migrating them over to the namespace.

You may accuse me of being negative again, but it may not be possible to achieve what you are asking. The route maps, which are a relatively recent development, comprise a series of templates, each forming a row of a table. To put this inside an infobox requires a table to be 'nested' inside another table, and I don't know that the mediawiki software can handle that. Besides, the route-maps are often wider than an average infobox: allowing the map to exist separately means it can expand as required to display the route in the best possible manner. I suggest you try copying an infobox which has the features you like, modifying it, and then applying it to real pages. This will show you whether it will 'work' or not. I would also concentrate on one at a time, since it is difficult to debug multiple templates effectively at the same time.

As long as you do not mix HTML and pipe syntax in the same table, then mediawiki is able to interpret nested tables ok (0.9 probability). Mix he syntax and there is a probability of weird and wonderful errors. This is a known feature of mediawiki. Fiddle Faddle 21:31, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Just a quick note that when you want links to images without making the actual immage appear, you need to insert a colon before the text. I tried! I implemented {{todo}}.

But, if you look at the project, it seems I failed. Now, instead of reverting this lot, I have asked on my own talk page for a friendly giant to come and help. I fear I do not understand how WP links between portals, wikiprojects and reality.

Once someone who knows what they are doing can help it will look beautiful and be useful to all project members. Right now it is a mess.
