Barnawartha is a small town located on the Hume Highway in regional north-east Victoria, Australia, approximately 299 kilometres (186 mi) from Melbourne. The town contains a few historical buildings, such as the Post Office, 'Cheesely's Bootmakers shop' (now used to store hay) and a recently burnt and rebuilt Pub. There is one small creek running through the town proper, 'Indigo Creek'.
The Barnawartha Parish clearly shows Gustav and William Baumgarten as large land owners in Barnawartha. After serving time for supplying horses to the infamous Ned Kelly William developed a large Winery called Bogong, lapping the shores of the Murray River on prime real estate.[2]
