[edit] Naming

Just thinking about the names of the individual articles: A1 Motorway (Italy), A3 Motorway, A9 Motorway etc...they're quite likely to conflict with other roads in other countries, aren't they? What about calling them "Autostrada A1" etc? It's also much clearer what country it is, and while "autostrada" isn't as well known as "autoroute" or "autobahn" in English, it's somewhat recognised as a word. Any opinions? It would be better to name them A1 (Italy), A3 (Italy) etc. to be consistent with other countries. Admiral Norton ^(talk) 15:06, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

I hadn’t read this talk page before, but when I created the A26 page I thought about it a bit then rather unhesitatingly called it Autostrada A26. The problem with A26 (Italy) is that ‘Italy’ by itself is not a very good disambiguator from the many other things which ‘A26’ might refer to that are not roads. Also there doesn’t seem to be a consistent pattern of naming such articles as ‘A999 (Country)’. I note from the disambiguation page A26 that the autoroute is called A26 autoroute, rather than A26 (France). The Spanish equivalent is Autovía A-26. Germany lacks a twenty-sixth autobahn, but the others are named Bundesautobahn 1, etc. The Polish number one motorway is called Autostrada A1 (Poland), rather than A1 (Poland) (which is a redirect). That seems to me to be the model to follow. Call them ‘Autostrada A999’ where no disambiguation is needed, and then ‘Autostrada A999 (Italy)’ when there is a conflict.
