[edit] Stalingrad
Stalingrad Stalingrad is a corps level game of the war between Germany and the Soviet Union from June, 1941 to May, 1943. The Avalon Hill Game Co. published this game in 1963. Despite its title, Stalingrad covers the entire campaign between the two nations to 1943. As one of the few war games on the market at the time, Stalingrad was frequently played and written about in hobby magazines. Often criticized for lack of realism, Stalingrad is the granddaddy of the many eastern front games that have since been published. Germany wins the game by occupying Moscow, Leningrad, and Stalingrad and holding them for two turns simultaneously or eliminating all opposing units. The Soviets win by avoiding the German victory conditions or eliminating all German units. The game is played on a 22x28 inch mounted map of the eastern front. Square cardboard playing pieces represent the military units in Stalingrad. Each game turn is equal to one month of time. The map is hex-based and each hex represents about 30 miles. Key terrain features include major cities, rivers, rough terrain and swamps. Defenders can gain advantages in battle by occupying cities, rough terrain and defending behind rivers. Variable weather effects in fall, winter and spring months affect the movement rate of combat units. All military units in the game are corps, including infantry, armor, mechanized infantry and cavalry. Except for some Italian and Hungarian units, there are no reinforcements in the game. The armed forces of both sides are replenished by replacements. Replacements are eliminated units, which are returned to the game. The production capability of the Soviets is reflected in the replacement rate, which rises during the game. The sequence of play and combat resolution in Stalingrad are similar to other Avalon Hill Games published in the 1960s, including Afrika Korps and D-Day. In each turn, a player moves his forces, and then executes attacks. In some situations, the attacker may advance a hex after combat. The combat results table of Stalingrad is identical to the other two games. Players of Stalingrad are encouraged to use “soak-off” attacks, which give the attacker a good chance of eliminating an enemy unit, in return for the likely sacrifice of a friendly unit. There are several criticisms of the game. Although the game is very competitive, it is not a good simulation of the campaign. The exploitation of breakthroughs by mechanized forces is absent in this game, because there is no movement phase after combat. A component of blitzkrieg warfare, tactical airpower, is missing from the game. The time frame of Stalingrad covers parts of three years. During that time, the organization and order of battle of both armies changed, but the game does not reflect any changes. In numerous eastern front games following publication of Stalingrad, game designers addressed these and other issues of realism and playability. [edit] SourcesAngiolillo, J. [edit] EnviroGard
EnviroGard emerged into the United States marketpace in the latter part of 2005 with their patented low polluting lawn mowers. Their lawn mowers operate on propane gas lowering toxic and smog forming emissions when compared to diesel and gasoline mowers. Propane has been widely used in forklifts for 15 years because the lower emissions enabled indoor use without sacrificing power. EnviroGard also claims to save on fuel expenses because propane gas has traditionally been less expensive than gasoline or diesel fuels. EnviroGard's Director of Worldwide Marketing, Mr. Jeremy Hahne stated "with growing instability in the middle east, rising gas prices, and an almost universal acceptance of global warming, propane gas is taking center stage as an alternative solution for the lawn care industry. With the ability to lower costs and save the environment at the same time, propane will become the preferred fuel for lawn care." EnviroGard plans to introduce propane mowers for homeowners in the coming months. [edit] Sourceshttp://propanecouncil.org/trade/mowers/ 75.130.207.0 05:12, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Going Out with a Bang: The First "Freak" Accident in America
Early seafarers of Boston, MA and a prosperous Yank born of The Freake Family of Shroton, County Dorset, England, may be due credit for first coining the term "freak accident" following an unfortunate mishap which rocked the New England harbor on Tuesday, May 4, 1675. John Freake, a merchant with partial interest in six sailing vessels, was killed outright by a blow of powder aboard one of said ships, it having only just arrived from Virginia. The accident as reported by the Reverend Simon Bradstreet: "Mr. Freak[sic] and Capt. Scarlett[sic] of Boston were killed by ye blowing up of ye deck of a ship by ye Carlessness of some aboard. There were diverse others that were very dangerlously wounded and some of yem after dyed." Mr. Freake's business partner, Captain Samuel Scarlet, died within hours of the explosion, as did a Mr Smith. But it was, no doubt, the name of the earliest known casuality in those first moments following the horrific sound of the explosion which made a most lasting impression. Shouted from pier to pier, and soon known aboard by every mate coming and going from Boston, the report traveled swiftly. The untimely death of one of Boston's most prosperous sons was news indeed. Mr. Freake had accrued a substantial estate leaving behind holdings in vessels, wharf and dock, a millnes, brewery, houses, and land, and silver, all valued at 2400 pounds, an impressive fortune for the time. [edit] Dom Williams
Dom Williams was born in 1943 and at the age of 12 published his first poem "I am God". The precedent Williams set for himself with this poem set him on a path of self-destruction. This was reflected in his book "All my Chickens". Williams' ultimate dimise was a suspected drug overdose during the summer of 1969. He was found next to a toilet with the words "No God, No Chickens" It was these words that created suspicion over his death. [edit] hydraulic sandwich
"hydraulic sandwich" is a term my (scott) father (mark) uses for beer of any kind. he uses this term because beer generally containts carbs and possibly other chemicals that your body requires to function on some level. Personally, i (scott) believe that this term was probably coined somewhere in the 1970s when my father was part of a fraternaty, and is suspected to have been involved on excessive consumption of hydraulic sandwich(s), and or other chemicals of a suspicious nature. References: Mark. (sleeping) Scott. (quite possibly under the influence of hydraulic sandwich(s) and/or various other narcotics, depressants, uppers, downers, screamers, stimulants, etc. at time of wikipedia entry.)

Scholars who observe and comment on the rapid change of common terms as they pertain to jurisdiction in shrinking world . So called virtual borders arising from globalization and the consequences of complications in establishing suzerainty in the ordinary disputes arising from international commerce . Established to give voice to international competitors against protective tendencies national industries . Seeking to balance those contending views practically with transparency , consistency and predictability the Center for the Rule of Law appears to conform to the notion of market power emerging as a global administrative influence . Granting efficiencies unrestrained by traditional governmental structures the evolving need to protect the flow of commerce from naturally arising understandable and quite ordinary national prejudices to resolve conflict between global enterprises and nations as equals . Ronald A. Cass serves as chairman . [edit] SourcesEurope Threatens New Microsoft Fines By RAF CASERT The Associated Press Thursday, March 1, 2007; 3:56 PM Excerpted from the Washinton Post Ronald Cass, chairman of the Washington-based Center for the Rule of Law, said the EU "has taken another step toward turning successful businesses into regulated utilities." . "The Commission's new effort, if pursued, will undermine innovation and take Europe further away from the sort of predictable, stable, sensible legal rules that define the rule of law," Cass said. The EU insisted it did not want to douse innovation. "The Commission does not want Microsoft to have to give away the fruits of its research for free," said Todd. "Microsoft is perfectly entitled to a fair share of the results of its innovation. However, the Commission decision does not allow Microsoft to charge for interoperability information based on its own dominant position in the PC software market." 68.163.183.22 17:06, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sakchai Makao
Sakchai Makao moved from his native Thailand in 1993 to the islands of Shetland in Scotland. Sakchai was 10 years old at the time. In 2006, at the age of 23, Sakchai was detained under the UK Immigration Act during a dawn raid of his house by police and immigration officers in Lerwick (Shetland). He was immediately transported to the Scottish mainland to be held until a deportation hearing could be held. Sakchai was an accomplished athlete, competing for Shetland, as well as Scotland at a national level. However, in 2004 Sakchai was involved in crime which led to him being charged and convicted of “wilful fire-raising”. When Sakchai was threatened with deportation in 2006, the people of Shetland came together to support him. The 'Shetland for Sakchai' campaign was started, with over 8000 people signing petitions to release him. Fundraising events were held to pay his legal costs, and there was much publicity in the local, national and international press. Eventually Sakchai was freed on bail on the 20th June 2006. A hearing on the 7th July 2006 saw Sakchai's appeal being upheld, and Sakchai was free to return to Shetland. The Shetland For Sakchai campaign has since won two national awards. [edit] Tingvoll church
The Tingvoll church is one of the remaining old stone churches that have been built through the ages in Norway. We are unsure of when it was actually constructed but records indicate between 1150 and 1200. The 800+ year old church in Tingvoll and the large angular farmhouse beside it, lie on a beautiful spot on the north side of the Tingvoll fjord. In the old times, Tingvoll was a court place for Nordmøre County. The length of the church is 32 meters, the height of the steeple, with spire, is 36 meters. The steeple dates from 1787. The walls are 1.8 meter thick and has corridors inside, both on the south side and on the north side. The corridors run in steep stairs up to the crown of the wall under the rafters and then down again with the same steep pitch. It is a mystery why they were constructed. So also a balcony outside under the gable, located above the chancel. The church is richly decorated. From the painted walls in the weaponhouse, the whitewash paintings inside the nave to the arc ceiling in the chancel which is adorned with stars and "half" moons. In the chancel wall, behind the top of the altarpiece, there is a marble rock with runic inscriptions. This inscription contains a prayer and also what is believed to be the name of the constructor - Gunnar. In 1928-29 the church was given a restoration work. [edit] Dr. Marion Blank
Dr. Blank has developed a unique and comprehensive model for teaching reading that is based on six critical skills. Two are physical skills: the visual sequencing skills for reading the fine motor performance for writing and four are language skills: phonology, semantics, syntax and discourse. This model allows reading to be taught to a wide variety of children, including those for whom reading attainment is highly problematic such as non-verbal autistic children. Her latest book The Reading Remedy and her latest program Phonics Plus Five are designed to make her system easily available to parents so that they may prevent or overcome the reading failure that afflicts about 40% of the school population across the nation. Dr. Blank is currently on the faculty of the Department of Child Psychiatry at Columbia University where she is the Director of the A Light on Literacy program. She also operates a private practice in New York and New Jersey where she is a licensed psychologist. Additionally, she serves as a consultant to a wide range of school districts in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. She also devotes considerable time and energy to producing books, articles, software programs and tests (including the widely used Preschool Language Assessment Instrument, a test published in both in English and Spanish, that is designed to assess the verbal communication skills of children in the preschool years). Previously, from 1973 to 1983, Dr. Blank was a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Rutgers Medical School. In that capacity, she served as the director of a research unit in reading disabilities. From 1960 to 1973, she was on the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York where her work included serving as the Director of the teaching program of the interdisciplinary Training Program. Throughout her career, Dr. Blank has been the recipient of many awards and commendations. Her software reading program, Sentence Master, received the Special Education Software Award from the Software Publishers Association and a Certificate of Achievement in the Johns Hopkins University National Search. She has been the recipient of a U.S. Public Health Service Career Development Award, an Award of Commendation from the New Jersey Speech and Hearing Association and the Elwyn Morey Memorial Lectureship in Australia. In 1996, she was the National Tour Lecturer for the Australian Speech/Language Association. She was the 1994 and 1995 New Jersey nominee for the Frank R. Kleffner Clinical Career Award of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. In addition, she is a member and fellow of the American Psychological Association, and a member of the Association of Children with Learning Disabilities. She has served on the editorial boards of a number of journals concerned with the issues of language and learning (e.g., Child Development, Applied Psycho- linguistics, Child Development and Care) as well as the boards of numerous committees including the William T. [edit] Phonics Plus Five
Phonics Plus Five is a commercial brand of reading materials, that is based upon a new and unique model for reading education. Developed by Dr. Marion Blank, an internationally recognized developmental psychologist and educator from Columbia University, the model proposes that six key skills are needed for successful reading and writing. As outlined in Dr. Blank’s book, The Reading Remedy, the model encompasses two physical skills: the visual sequencing skills for reading the fine motor performance for writing and four language skills: phonology, semantics, syntax and discourse. Currently, reading education is dominated by two systems: phonics and whole language. Each of these teaches only one of the six skills of reading with phonics concentrating on phonology and whole language on discourse. As a result, the teaching leaves most children with major deficits in the key areas of literacy, leading to the 40 % reading failure rate that is consistently reported in government studies. Phonics Plus Five, by contrast, teaches all six skills through a comprehensive program involving workbooks, full color books and an easy to follow manual. Designed for children in kindergarten-4th grade, each teaching session takes only 15-30 minutes a day. The program is designed for use both at home and in school. Born in France Ravalec appeared in many films before Moonraker, her first part in an English language film. The character of "Dolly" has no dialogue in the film, and her chief role is to gaze longingly at Richard Kiel's "Jaws", helping to convince him to see the error of his ways and become a goo-dguy in the end.

[edit] TO:PSAIO
TO:PSAIO stands for a Thanet Organisation : a Plethora of Sane And Insanse Ones. It was estabilished it the year 2000 to commerate the millenium and fufill its aims of general and specific acts of oddness. Sadly this proved to be an abortive attempt, its founding members have fallen temporarily out of touch before they could get round to recruiting anyone else. Upon later reunion, however, there was an unspoken consensious that all this foolishness was probably odd enough and the whole thing was laid to dignified rest; the sane act nessecitated by the name. None of this has any particular bearing on anything, but serves to commerate an insignificant, yet characteristic, chapter of the long ago degraded history of Margate and its three sided island, which was once a popular tourist resort, back when Queen Vic was more than just a pub. It also serves to show what the sad decline of achievement amongst graduates of Chatham House Grammar School since Ted Heath went there. All in all, then it says very little, which makes it a worthy memorial to the organisation that aimed to say just that. Farewell TO:PSAIO, Rest In (wiki)Peace!
