Talk:Ambush Bug
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I fail to see what George Bryan Brummell has to do with Ambush Bug.
- What is George Bryan Brummell known for? His (occasionally over-the-top) love of clothing/fashion. Look at the article: claimed 5 hours to dress, elaborate neckware and boots polished with champagne.
- Brum-El is a series of jokes and references, of which Brummell is but one: he's a parody of Superman's origins (his planet being doomed, he quickly constructs a one-seater rocket to save his most valued possession). However, in keeping with his name and the tied-in description as the "best dressed man" "three years running", he decides that his clothes are the most important thing and saves them. (His name's also a parody of the habit of DC superheroes from other planets to be named something-El -- Kal-El, Kara Zor-El, Cir-El, Mon-El, etc. -- but that's another discussion.) While I agree that a citation wouldn't hurt, if you can't see the obvious inspiration for the resultant name of Brum-El in this context then I can't help you further. -- g026r 20:00, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't see why a citation is needed, since it's pretty obvious that Brum-El is a reference to Beau Brummell. However, maybe the use of the word "probably" (as in "probably is a reference to Beau Brummel" or something similar) to show that this is speculation (though, again, barely constituting speculation when you consider how obvious the pun is) would make all parties happy?
