Altay SK is a Turkish football club based in İzmir. The black and white team colours represent the pain and honesty of the Turkish people. Altay SK is the first team to represent Turkey in UEFA Cup . Club is the 5th successful club in Turkey, according to overall achievements[citation needed].

Altay SK founded in 1914 in İzmir. The foundation aim of the club was to unite Turkish youth under sporting activities and to encourage them, because in 1910’s there was domination of minorities in sporting activities in İzmir. Altay SK supported by Turkish politicians of the era. Celal Bayar worked very hard in foundation of the club and gave his full support.
Altay SK has an important place in Turkey's football history. Club had a key role in uniting Turkish community during Independence War of Turkey. Many players and supporters of Altay SK lost their lives, became martyr to protect the motherland. After Independence War founder and leader of Turkey Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gave his Supreme Commander Fahrettin Paşa the surname of “Altay”, that is a perfect example to show Altay SK’s importance for Turkey. Colors of Altay SK represent the pain (Black) and honesty, purity (White) of Turkish people.
What makes Altay SK special?
Altay SK is visited by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (founder of Turkey ), which is the biggest honour for a Turkish club.
In 1918, Altay SK played against Italian team Garibaldi and won 10-0. Italians were one of the nations that captured İzmir in those years; this was the resistance of Turkish people starting with a soccer game. Magnificent win of Altay SK meant a lot for Turkish community. After this game Italians stopped their sporting activities in İzmir and Garibaldi shut downed by Italian Consul.
