Necati Ateş (pronounced "Ne-jah-ti A-tesh"), (born on January 3, 1980 in İzmir, Turkey) is a Turkish football player as a striker and he plays for the Turkey national football team and Galatasaray.
He is known for his long hair and aggressive, fast plays with great vision and precise passing. He was an integral part of Galatasaray's 2005-2006 16th league championship. He has recently scored many goals in Turkey's 2008 European Championship preparatory exhibition games.
He formerly played for Altay and Adanaspor.
He will wear number 35 starting the 2007-2008 season, following a common practice of referencing the license plate numbers of their hometown among Turkish football players. He gave up the number 10 to new transfer Lincoln as a sign of good will.
On 25 July 2007, Galatasaray manager Karl-Heinz Feldkamp have officially reported to the board that he is not planning to use Necati at the following season and asked that he should be transfer listed.
In September 2007 he was announced to be loaned out to Ankaraspor until June 2008.[1] He has expressed his wishes to return to Galatasaray once he has re-achieved his form.[2]. On January 31, 2008. Necati signed a half-year contract until June 2008 with Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor (on loan).
