5,10-Methylenetetrahydrofolate (5,10-CH2-THF) is the substrate used by methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase to generate 5-methyltetrahydrofolate. This is a coenzyme used in thymidine biosynthesis by thymidylate synthase (FAD).
