The 42nd Grammy Awards were held on February 23, 2000. They recognized accomplishments by musicians from the previous year. During the show, Carlos Santana won 8 Grammys, tying Michael Jackson's record for most awards won in a single night. Christina Aguilera won Best New Artist surprising many by beating out former Mickey Mouse Club co-star Britney Spears. This win helped lead to an alleged rivalry and feud between the two. Also known at that year's show was the iconic Versace green dress worn by Jennifer Lopez.
