[edit] Drop "Syed" from title?

The news accounts I've been reading don't have "Syed". Is this a less common first name? If it is, maybe we should consider dropping it from the title. (Leaving it, of course, in the first introductory line)Erudy (talk) 22:02, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

I agree. Going by NYTimes, Washington Post, BBC News, Aaj TV, CNN, Geo TV, they all are not using "Syed" prefix. Razzsic (talk) 22:54, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

I already had redirected the frequently used name page to here but apparently it was better to move it. Also note that most news sources cite his last name with only one "L" (Gilani) -Ãlways Ãhëad (talk) 19:17, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

As would seem correct, given that "Gillani" would be pronounced with a short i and a longer a, whereas in Gīlān - the source of that name - both would be equally long.
