[edit] !Voting Philosophy

Since I have limited time to devote to the project, I generally only participate and AfD, RfA, and other debates when either:

  1. I have firsthand experience with the candidate in question. (e.g. the Crockspot, MONGO, or Rifleman 82 RfAs; the Joshua Plague or History of Smoking AfDs; or ArbComm elections.)
  2. I feel my participation may affect the outcome. Situations falling into this category include:
    1. When the RfA or AfD is close. (e.g. Coppertwig or Dihydrogen Monoxide RfAs; Intro to genetics AfD.)
    2. When it's still early in !voting. (e.g. Rifleman RfA or Dihydrogen Monoxide RfAs.)
    3. When an RfA is older than 5 days and hasn't been closed, presumably because of a lack of consensus or participation. (e.g. Has Fil Flipped AfD.)
    4. I happen to come across an article which should be deleted. (e.g. Fovean Chronicles or Murshad kareem peer... AfDs.)

I will not vote simply for the sake of increasing my WP space edit count, nor do I routinely cruise WP:RfA or WP:AfD looking for debates to get involved with. It take can take a good chunk of time to properly evaluate an RfA or AfD, and then after !voting I like to keep an eye the debate to see if any new info comes to light. Therefore, I generally don't think it's worth the effort to bother with unfamiliar candidates/topics if consensus is clearly favoring one outcome already. In other words: why invest 30+ minutes into a 3 day old debate on someone/thing I know knothing about if the !votes are already at 50/4/0, or there 10 delete !votes and 1 keep?
