[edit] 24 Pictures
(copied and pasted from both of our talk pages so I can document the whole conversation) Reddyfire, I see that you have uploaded a number of files to wikimedia commons and then put them here for 24 character pages. This is an important job, and I commend you for doing it, but the method you are going about it is the wrong way. Upload your 24 pictures here, and either classify it as a promotional picture or a tv-screenshot for 24 characters. If you need any help, contact me on my talk page. - Xtreme680 01:10, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- So how do I upload the 24 pictures here instead of wikimedia?- Reddyfire
-
- On the toolbox, you will see upload file. You find the file on your computer, add it, list a summary of the file and its use rationale, and then select a fair use justification. You can then upload them from there. I actually suggest that if you have any 24 picture requests, you can just ask me to do them. I have access to a variety of screenshots because my computer allows me to take pictures from the DVDs, and I own every season, and have downloaded the Season 5 episodes onto my computer. If you need a picture, I can get you high resolution ones, I also have a pretty good knowledge of fair use copyright, so I can assure you they will not get deleted. I simply don't have time now the desire to look up all the character pages, so just tell me which ones you need and I will upload them for you. I'm looking forward to working with you. :) - Xtreme680 05:29, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the offer on pictures but I can take care of that. I have every season on my hard drive including season 5 and figured out how to take screen shots of the characters. Reddyfire 05:29, 31 May 2006

- Sure thing. I see you have uploaded some new pictures, and it seems you understand it well. - Xtreme680 03:04, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging Image:Amador copy.jpg
(copied and pasted from both of our talk pages so I can remember the whole conversation) Thanks for uploading Image:Amador copy.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey 00:00, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- Feydey, I understand the concept of copyright tagging, I'm just confused why you have nominated the picture Image:Amador copy.jpg for speedy deletion. It has been marked as a television screenshot and tagged as such. While I took the screenshot with my computer, I do not own it, Fox broadcasting does, so I cannot say I own the image and release it under GDFL. This is a new version of the file because the old one was dark and difficult to see, and uploaded by a different user. I took the speedy deletion tag off and tried to specify fuller as to the nature of the photograph, but I am just confused as to why any part of it was a problem. There are many television screenshots of a similar nature with similar sourcing and tagging. I apologize for coming to you with this, but I am familiar with the pages you directed me to and they did not answer my questions. Thank you for your time. - Xtreme680 06:00, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

- You wrote in the summary: "Image of Michael Amador. Copyright to Fox Broadcasting." I saw no source i.e. from what show it was taken so I tagged it with NSD - no source defined, that is not a speedy delete tagging. I had no complaints about the copyright of the picture. If the image is not used in any articles and someone finds it and wants to use it, they will not say "wow, I know this is the screenshot from the 3rd season of 24" - unless You write so. It is always good to source the images, even if You know where the image comes from. Best, feydey 10:30, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

- The image was not tagged for speedy deletion. It was correctly tagged as having no source (which it didn't at the time the tag was added) It still needs a more detailed fair use rationale, though. The JPStalk to me 12:03, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks Feydey, I usually add source information, but was trying to upload an improved image and forgot about it. Keep doing the fine work you're doing. - Xtreme680 16:49, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wiki 24
- Hey. Wiki 24 and Wikipedia use completely different systems; many of the pages on characters like Ellis shouldn't even exist on this wiki, so I've been edging slowly to remove that info or compress/rewrite it so that it doesn't use Wiki 24 and/or info that doesn't belong on wikipedia, but with so many newcomers to Wikipedia editing the 24 pages, it gets tough to keep them all sane :). I'll see if I can link it to page history; if not, I'll rewrite and compress the data once I merge it all into character lists. — Deckiller 13:05, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Cocktails
Hello. As a professional bartender (at least according to the userbox you added) you might be interested in the WikiProject Cocktails. It is a group of people at Wikipedia working together to improve the quality of information related to mixed drinks. Having more people participate who really know the topic from a professional point of view would be terrific. Please consider becoming an active Participant. Also, if you are interested, a name change is being considered for the WikiProject from Cocktails to Mixed Drinks, and you can add your opinions to the discussion and vote. I hope to see you around. --Willscrlt (Talk|Cntrb) 04:33, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Chase.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Chase.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 17:13, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:24_SyedAli.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:24_SyedAli.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 20:29, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image:24-keith_palmer.jpg
I have tagged Image:24-keith_palmer.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. BigrTex 22:15, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Brody1.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:Brody1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:17, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] 24 WikiProject
Hello there, I see you are on the 24 WikiProject. It's been quite dead for some time now, and me personally, I intend to revive it. I considered maybe even a 24 Portal, i see the project founder hasn't been on Wikipedia for nearly a year. What are your thoughts on the project? Are you still interested in it? And would you help revive it? Let me know, I would intend to help out a lot, maybe "take over" the founders position, well not take over, but possibly help lead the project? Was just a thought and I wanted your input. My talk page would be the best place. Cheers, Steve Crossin (talk) (anon talk) 19:46, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
