[edit] History

The Xstinguish inventor Steven Coulthard invented and designed the Xstinguish in 1991 after the Oakland Hills fires in Northern California were started from a carelessly dicarded cigarette. Mr. Coulthard's vision was to invent a product that snuffs a cigarette in 3 seconds or less to stop forest and highway fires at the source. The original Xstinguish only included a bottle opener and cigarette snuffer tube. After 10 years of designing and redesigning the product for consumer use the first prototypes were made at the end of 2003. In 2005 the first assemblyline Xstinguish were shot for retail sale with branding and packaging for the USA marketplace. The new 2006 version of the Xstinguish upgrades to a metal bottle opener, a reinforced can opener and the addition of a Lottery Scratcher. The Xstinguish snuffs a cigarette in 3 seconds because the tube is tapered towards the bottom. When the cigarette is slid down the shaft it seals itself about ¾'s of the way down to create a vacuum inside the Xstinguish tube. The cherry of the cigarette uses up all of the existing air and then snuffs itself out from lack of air. (See Detail Drawing to Right)
