Second opinion

Hey Xiner. How's everything? I was wondering if you might give me your opinion on the correct action for the following situation (if you have experience in the area). I closed this afd on three fictional characters from a RPG as "merge all", and performed the merge here. Soon thereafter the creator of the three merged stubs reverted the redirects so I protected them. Now he is asking me to uprotect them apparently so they can be expanded. This presents problems.

The way I see it, if an article is deleted through afd, it can be freely reposted and is only subject to deletion as a repost under CSD G4 if it is substantially the same material and does not address the reasons for deletion. Here, though the article has not been deleted, the reversion presents an analogous situation because it wasn't an expansion; the user simply reverted back to the prior content that there was consensus to merge. But reading between the lines of his post, I see his point (though I have little confidence he will follow through I must AGF). By protecting the redirects, I have essentially foreclosed the ability to turn these into proper, expanded articles that address the afd concerns (if that's possible). On the other hand, unless they're immediately expanded in a manner addressing the afd concerns, they will sit there in contravention of the afd and I will be on the slippery slope of being the arbiter of choosing some probationary time period before protecting again. Any thoughts?--Fuhghettaboutit 15:03, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: Belated congrats

Thanks. I try to help out where I can and have mostly been dealing with speedy and proposed deletions and XfD. I will start doing other things as time progresses, but I also want to be able to continue article-writing. There are a few articles whose expansion or creation I've been postponing and I hope to get to those soon. Anyway, thanks again for your message. yo

henry has disappointed me very much! he is very far from being my fvt player now.. and wba is in my town in exactly 14 days :-) hopefully we'll see some baggies! West Brom 4ever 21:13, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

well it is very tough, because lots of cops in civil clothes go around the stands and take pics of supporters releasing flares and doing anything against our very funny fans law made by our lame government, so it is forbidden by Torcida to take any pics during the game, which is good. however, nobody has anything against half-time pics, so will report back with few of them. going to play CoD2 for a few hours. come by to irc sometimes. goddamn, i can talk so much :-) West Brom 4ever

saw it. cheers! West Brom 4ever 12:34, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

My RFA

Hi Xiner, just a quick note to say thanks for participating in my request for adminship. It was successful and I now have some shiny new buttons. If I can ever be of help, please let me know. Happy editing, mattbr 10:28, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Long overdue greetings

Hey Xiner!

Thanks for the message! I have been meaning to write for awhile, but I barely log on these days. I hope your life circumstances have changed in a positive way. I am much busier than I used to be, and therefore have little time to devote to Wikipedia. I still keep tabs on a few articles that I invested time in -- I even achieved GA status for one of them.

I really appreciate all of your help and support. You have been a great adopter!

Take care,

Vivian

Adoption

I understand; I've been terribly busy with school, so I haven't been very active myself here lately. Thanks for being my adopter!--H-ko (Talk) 09:04, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

RfA question

I don't suppose I could persuade you that this is not an appropriate or relevant RfA question? --Spike Wilbury talk 22:24, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

I see your point. Thanks for the response. --Spike Wilbury talk 01:09, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
It's still not appropriate. I've deleted it and refactored the numbering to avoid prejudicing the debate. Probably you can find another way to ask it. DGG (talk) 01:32, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
I respect your work and neutrality very highly indeed, and so I would have expected you to understand that is is never acceptable to ask someone about his political religious or sexual orientation or views in WP. One may declare them if one wishes, and many people do. I think such a question will lead to unpleasantness. If you wish to restore it do, feel free to do so, but i think you might want to perhaps at least word it as an optional request--"It might clarify things if you wish to start your own opinions on the subject, but of course we will not hold it against you if you choose to ignore this question" (Personally, I think his answer to your other question is sufficient--but that is up to you-- I will not challenge you about it.)DGG (talk) 20:42, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

I thank you for participating in my successful request for adminship, which ended with 60 supports, no opposes, no neutrals, and one abstain. Edison 16:04, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

Thanks for supporting my recent successful RfA. I have been testing my new mop a bit and Wikipedia hasn't crashed yet! Cheers! -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 04:33, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Admin Tools Template

Xiner, here's my dumb question of the day: How do I add the admin tools from the {{administrator}} template without adding the administrators category? I don't want to look like I claiming to be an admin. - WilsonjrWikipedia (talk) 02:55, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Pro Life Pro Abortion User Box

Hi. I added User:Xiner/Userboxes/Pro-Life Pro-Abortion to my user look awhile back. I just noticed today that it has changed though. I looked at its history and it looks like another use came in and changed the template. Was that something done with your permission? The changes don't really reflect the same message, to me, as it did before. Collectonian 20:47, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Opinion on possible (probable?) vandalism

For the article on Ethyl_4-aminobenzoate, the history looks vandalised--but it's been a while with some edits in the meantime. It doesn't seem like it belongs there to me. What do you think? I'd like someone else's opinion before editing the article.--H-ko (Talk) 04:10, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Need Help! with Ringo

Hi Xiner,

Long time, no write. But I'm having a technical problem with an article and I just can't figure it out. It's the article "Ringo Starr". I was a bit pissed off about its poor organization again (I had cleaned it up somewhat in July) and I started to edit it, when I realized only about half of the problem was poor article organization.

The other half appears to be a technical glitch of some sort.

Take a look at the section "Possibility of knighthood". The last paragraph (currently something about awards) appears to have nothing whatsoever to do with the topic. But if you go into edit mode, you will see that awards are technically in their own section, "Awards and Recognition." It's just that the section heading and parts of the section itself just... well, disappear. I tried editing there, and it seems as if whatever is placed immediately behind "Knighthood" just gets sort of swallowed. Not only the text itself, which doesn't appear, but headings are not recognized and therefore also do not appear in the contents.

Thus I cannot get the article to appear correctly and completely on screen, and I've tried this now on three different computers.

What am I -- and all of us Ringo editors -- missing here? What's happening? Can you help?
