Talk:Xander Harris
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Someone with decent writing skills ought to rewrite this thing. I deleted some of the worst of it. --Xyzzyplugh 14:10, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
The Romantic Relationships section is none too good. I'm removing some of the links to women he didn't actually have romantic relationships with. --Xyzzyplugh 18:36, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Other Xanders
This article should be about Xander as a name, not just about a TV character who has it as a first name. Is the Wikipedia article [Homer] just about Homer Simpson? No, it isnt. This should be remedied. Another article should be made about this TV character. 68.160.164.128 22:26, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- This article is about the tv character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If you wish to create a page about Xander as a christian name then please do so at the original Xander page so that it doesn't redirect to this one.--NeilEvans 22:56, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] What's in a name?
He is obviously named after the founder of the Church of Satan, Anton Szandor LaVey. Does anybody know what Josh Whedon meant by that? I've seen much of Whedon's work but his philosophy puzzles me as much as Iron Maiden's lyrics, but maybe I'm looking for meaning where there is none?
- Well, his first names are Alexander (abbreviated to Xander) LaVelle. 'Szandor' and 'Xander' are pretty much the same name, and the similarity between 'LaVelle' and 'LaVey' is almost as obvious.
- If you're asking why Joss chose that name - well, why not? Buffy is full of references to pop-culture, mythology and history, so what's one more reference?
[edit] He's listed under fictional eyepatch wearers. Is that too much of a spoiler?
I was actually the one to put him in that category, but I'm thinking it might be too much of a spoiler to do so. I'unno, what do you think?
- I don't think it's too much of a spoiler, but since in the majority of the series he does not wear an eyepatch and he only gets it near the end, I don't think he should be listed. Should probably let some others weigh in before you (/if you decide to) change it though. --Gero 20:56, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

- I think that as he only had a patch in the last few episodes then he shouldn't be included. If he was notable for wearing one then, yes add him, but he's not.--NeilEvans 20:58, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Pictures
There's only one (blurry) picture on this page, that's not enough. Can't somebody get the cover to Buffy #2, that's a cool picture of Xander. Also, what about some shots of him as miltary guy from the new comic. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.158.46.119 (talk) 07:48, 16 May 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Xandermain.jpg
Image:Xandermain.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Picture Choice
Why is the picture of Xander Harris uses on the page one where he has an eyepatch? This only serves to spoil the plot of Seventh-Season episodes of Buffy. Couldn't we use a picture of a two-eyed Xander instead? Nedlum (talk) 08:37, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
I agree. (But what pictures we're allowed to use always confuses me, so if someone else could do it that would be great.) Perhaps there could be a picture of eyepatch!Xander later on in the article? Its a lie lah (talk) 06:32, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Birth year
I'm wondering about the accuracy of 1981 as his birth year. There's no citation for this. We know he's at least as old as Buffy because the day after her 17th birthday, he mentions that he is 17 (episode title: Innocence). Since she's born in January 1981, it's really more likely he was born in 1980. At any rate, the year should probably be given as 1980 or 1981.
