[edit] Former Usage of Call Letters

The station went on the air as WBPT on 1988-02-01 as "Power 89.5 The Spark". It was a simulcast of WSRX 91.5 "The Spark", which was playing Hiphop, Freestyle, & Dance music at the time. Some of their Saturday night broadcasts include live performers like DJ Magic Mike, Johnny O., Sexy C, and many other South Florida local artists. On 1992-06-16, the station changed it's call sign to the current WSRX.

The call letters at one time belonged to Grand Valley State University who used them for its student station. The student station is now NPR affiliated WGVU-FM on a frequency of 88.5.
